Door locks going crazy and can't start car
Hi Forum!
Having a nasty car won't start and door lock mechanism going crazy-problem. Here some background: I've inherited a wonderful X-Type 2.5L V6 with manual transmission from 2007 about 6 months ago and so far it has all been smooth riding, did about 10'000 km without any problems and the car is now at 192'000 km. I travel both long and short distances. About two weeks ago, the rear passenger door wouldn't lock anymore with the rest of the car, which I would 'fix' by manually turning the lock from the inside and then shutting the door. Yesterday, after driving alright for half an hour, I parked the car and a minute later it would not start again. Instead, I heard a clicking noise, the oil and battery light flashing, the needles slightly moving but the car neither idling nor the engine starting. Furthermore, suddenly all locks don't close anymore, they make the sound but don't actually lock any of the doors. Instead, they go into a wild lock/unlock noise loop which I can break by turning the key in the ignition (but it doesn't do anything else). Trunk not locking either. I left it overnight but today the same issues persist. Using the key fob or manually doesn't work either. Manually locking the driver door from the inside sends the other locks back into their lock/unlock frenzy. So - the car is now parked, unlocked, and won't start.
I've searched through the forum and it might be a battery or battery cable issue (although the issue appeared minutes after a successful drive without any warning), and then there is for sure something wrong with the locking electronics. I am not familiar with car mechanics but if you could give me some hints on how to reset the locking electronics or other things to try, I would appreciate it a lot!!
Thank you for your help! LMD

How's the battery charging? If the engine is running you should get at least 13.7v to 14.7v. When battery is at normal state (engine off), you should get at least 12.6v. Maybe you need a new battery. Check alternator is OK as well to make sure
