Drain Locations

Drain Locations
I’ve searched the X-type forum for water drain locations on the X-Type. I can find posts for the moon roof drains, but none that show where the locations of where the drains are located under or near the windshield cowl, or where they actually drain out under the car. I saw a YouTube video of water in the wheel wells, but nothing showing their actual locations. Are there any links to where they are and how to clean them out?

RBaczek, the tubes run down the A and C pillars and dump out by the wheels. I want to say that all 4 tubes drain out behind the associated tire. As for cleaning them, I would suggest a 2 prong approach. I would mix up say a 2 quart pitcher of water and lysol. You then open the sunroof and with the car sitting on level ground, pour about a pint of the water such that it down down each corner of the sunroof. I would then follow it up with another 2 quarts of just water to flush stuff out. The second step would be to pour a little bit of water down a tube and as soon as you possibly can, apply a can of compressed air with tape added to the straw so it forms a seal on the drain. This way you are using the water as both a hammer and an abrasive to scrub any gunk out of the lines. So, you would have the tape pre-placed on the straw, pour a little water and as soon as possible slide the straw up to the opening and blast some air down the tube. Repeat for all 4 corners.

Thermo, good information. Thanks. What I’m looking for are the drains from water that comes down from the windshield, past the wipers, under the cowl in the engine compartment, and down toward the front wheel wells
Follow up question, is there a video of the installation of the “water shield” to the pollen filter housing? I have the technical bulletin with the instructions, but it’s always easier if you watch a video too.

RBaczek, if you are after "tubes" that drain the cowl area in front of the windshield, you are not going to find any. There are simply gaps on the sides that allow the water to flow through the cowl area and then fall down through the engine bay in a space left between the outer sheet metal and the inner structure. As for the rear, the water runs down the rear window into the gap surrounding the trunk. This then funnels the water around the trunk seal, down by the tail lights and then behind the bumper cover.
