I had the same problem pasenger side door locked/deadlocked, could not open door at all from inside or out. By prising the door card off starting at the bottom left and reefing it upwards, I managed to remove it with out removing the seat. However I mangled many of the door plastic pin seatings(not the pins) perhaps seat out may have helped. I did manage to super glue /mastic many of those pins back into place. Once the door card was off and the inner cover stripped back for access, none of the levers or cables would open the door. Still deadlocked I guess.
I removed the 3 torx screws on the back of the lock actuator(use a mirror), there was plenty of room to get to them. I then prised the plastic cover off (destroying it) and the electric motor and worm drive fell out. This is covered in another post somewhere but I could not find it again. However thanks to whoever posted.
Once the electric motor was out there is a plastic gear about the size of a $1 coin. rotate it until the dead lock releases. Then I finally had the door open.I replaced the unit with one from a UK scrap yard, make sure you order one with the same part number. the number is printed on the lock actuator cover. 2002 2.5 x type RHD,
Once the motor was back in and connected up, I tested the door locks inside and out before restoring the door card. With the door card on all appears to functioning correctly now so my conclusion was the motor drive and or actuator had failled in the deadlock position. There is no issue with the plastic clamp that attached to the outer door handle lever.
I hope this helps someone as it did look like my door was locked for good....

Sorry I did not read this thread much earlier. I have a suggestion, though I realize it is too late at this point for you. Looking at my X-type, it appears one could remove the front fender, which exposes the door hinges. Then it's a case of unbolting the hinges and pulling the door away from the locked end? Could that be a simpler way, or am I off base?

Owner of 2008 xtype and I'd like to add this experience. Wife in passenger seat and me in driver's seat pulled door handles at exactly same moment with drivers side jamming. No amount fiddling, tugging or swearing etc would open it. Eventually with window down and door card and liner pulled back as far as allowable I used a long screwdriver and small hammer to wack the ROD base clip down which caused the door to release. Now time to pull apart and fix properly
