I just did the TC drain & fill and used Valvoline SynPower 75w140 since it states on the back of the bottle that it "meets or exceeds Ford M2C-192A specs". Besides I like Valvoline products.

My buddy and I changed the TC oil today on my 02 3.0 X-type with soom success. First, when we removed the TC drain plug NOTHING came out; not even a drop. We started by trying to use WildBill's kit but could not get it to work. The PVC elbow was too long; not the in-line section but the length past the elbow. We fell back to the gravity feed method and got about 300 ml of oil in the TC. There was a substantial reduction in noise while driving. I plan on driving the car for a week or two and then changing the oil again. In the mean time I'll be looking for a different pvc elbow.

Thanks for keeping us posted, Mark. I'm surprised Bill's kit didn't work. I thought it was designed specifically for the 2002 to 2004 models.

UGH, there is NO DRAIN PLUG... we gotta stop calling that intermediate plug a drain plug.

300 was the amount to reach the bottom of this plug>? or did you fill it above the hole as you need to???

After I put in 300 ml it started leaking out as fast as I was putting it in, so I stopped. I know it has more in it that when I started and will be going back to change the fluid again in a week or two. I'm going to try to find a new elbow piece that will clear the interferance. As it was, I could only get about a 3/4 turn on it. I know that we had some effect as it was much more quite after the fluid was added than before.

Mark, if Wild Bill's kit isn't working, why don't you try the solution I suggested earlier in this thread (i.e., 1/2" to 3/8" male to male reducer, with a cap)? You shouldn't have the clearance issues with that setup, you'll have a built-in nipple to connect a tube to (allowing you to gravity fill above the opening), and you'll lose way less fluid when you go to put the cap on. Anyway, something to consider.

Actually, what I was planning is to try to combine your method with WildBill's check valve. It'll be this weekend before I can get to a hardware store and start looking at pvc elbows. I'll let you know how it goes.

Dang, I wish this valve could be screwed on to the t-type transfer case. The handle might not clear the cooling fin on the transfer case. It looks to be really well built, and comes in a version with a nipple that can you can attach a fill tube to.

It looks freakin' brilliant, and comes in 1/2 NPT and 3/8 NPT sizes

Already tried it. It IS really well built. And it doesn't clear the case.
