ECM Progaming
Hi guys, quick question I finally got my new used ecm and now need to program it. I searching online and stuff and came across this: https://eurocartool.com/download-and...guar-sdd-free/
I am right now dowloading it. Not sure has anyone used this? what cable would I need if I want to do this myself? can it be any obd2-usb cable? could this cable work?
car deatail: I have a 2004 Jaguar Xtype
what happened: there is another post of what happened and how i got here but in short my ecm fired and I ordered a new one from ebay its used ofc but the numbers and everthing matches. and yes he only gave the ecm else I would have gotten the keys and the instermental cluster.

Notice the download you are referencing is for Jaguar 2006+
I think you said yours is a 2004? And can't recall if yours is a pre or post 2004.25?

HELP, getting hte SDD software is going to be a surefire way to prevent a lot of headaches from "this isn't quite working" situations. I would say you want to get the SDD software and then spend a few hours with it just playing around inside the ECU/car to get a feel for how to access various commands and how the car is going to handle things. Keep in mind that you are also going to need a 12V/20A power source to attach to the car. SDD looks at the car and needs the voltage up at 13.6 VDC even with the car off. This is more than the normal battery is capable of. This ensures that there will be sufficient power to program things. So, keep that in mind. A standard battery charger will only give you 10 amp max. It might be enough to trick the SDD, but not always.
As for the cable, as long as it says that it is for a Jaguar, you should be good. But, if you start having issues, if you went cheap on the cable, that is where I would start looking. Plan on spending $100 on the cable. The Mongoose Pro cables are what most people go with.
