Default ECU swap?

A couple weeks ago we had a real hot day (114) and when I started the car up, it immediately went into limp mode and was returning a P1609 code. This appears to be an internal communication code so I sent the ECU off for repair. The repair shop says the main chip is bad and they can't fix it. I already own the British Diagnostics JLR SDD IDS software that I bought for my X350. I'm wondering if I can obtain another ECU and use that software to "pair" the replacement ECU to the car. Has anyone done that? Alternatively, has anyone had an ECU repair shop fix the P1609 code on theirs? This ECU has been repaired once previously (P1229). Or am I just hosed on this?

Default Ecu swap

Yea its dead. Same thing happend on my wifes 02 x type. Repair can be done fairly cheap if you are not concerned with electronic vin match or odometer accuracy. Check out vid on u tube showing how to swap parts from donor car.

Forgot to update this. I couldn't find the receipt for who did the original ECU repair and I was leaving for a trip so I sent it to the first ECU repair place that said they would take it. That was a mistake. Had to pay upfront and they just came back and said I needed a "rebuilt" one for $800 more plus I would still have to take it to dealer to program the ECU to the car. High pressure sales. I requested my ECU back. I bought another of the same part number off e-bay to try to program it to the car. I had left the car parked on the street so I put the old ECU back in to limp it into the driveway to work on it. Car fired right up and ran fine. It's been fine for a couple months now. All I can guess is it had a dirty connection. Was unaware that there was a youtube video explaining the procedure. Never occurred to me to look for one. For reference. I'm guessing you are referring to this video
