Default electrical issues

So my 2002 xtype is acting up.. First the radio would randomly just shut off and say communication fault. Then I would shut ignition off and turn it back in place as I'm cruising still... I have a manual... It will prompt me to enter code and works for a bit longer before having to repeat... Now when i hit the lock button on my keyless entry it is beeping twice and flashing lights 4 or 5 times. When I used to hit the button once for lock and twice for alarm.. Any help would be great and thanks for reading

I would check two things. Check the battery and the alternator first. I have seen these cars do weird things when one of the two were not working right.

bharvey, please see my post in your other topic on this. Granted, with this new information, I have 2 other things to check on. The first would be the ground point for the radio. There is a ground point behind and to the left of the radio that if it was loose, it would cause the radio to appear to have been removed from the vehicle, leading the security module to think the radio has been removed.

But, based on what you are describing with the locks and whatnot (ie, the beeping is telling you that the car is thinking it is seeing a door open and it is not locking the car because of this), I am suspecting that it is the radio that is your source of your problems. Then it is simply affecting the GEM module which is what controls your door locks.

Thanks again thermo... I cleaned the battery terminals yesterday aswell as the battery ground point and a couple of ground points under the hood.. Plugged everything back in and it works. I'm starting to think maybe time for a battery an cables though.

Always possible. Granted, I would have suspected other issues before the radio acting up. NOrmally the radios will handle big voltage fluctuations much better than say the ECU or TCU.

Fingers crossed the alarm seems to be working normal. Not so for the radio though still shutting down randomly. I may have to order a new head unit. are you familiar if there's an updated radio system for the 2002 x-type

harvey, you can install any of the radios from the various years as long as you stick with the same level radio (ie, non-Nav radio for non-Nav radio). If you are thinking about upgrading to a bigger/better factory radio, you may find that it is more involved than a simple plug and play upgrade.

Zig, I am on travel at the moment, so I don't have access to my diagrams. But, I would ask that you be a little more clear on which parking sensors (front or rear or both). If it is the front sensors that are (not) causing the sounder and your phone carriage is acting up, then I would be looking at a ground near the radio again. But, I am going off of memory here.
