Engine and ABS dash lights
The light that represents the engine went on and the ABS light went on as well. If I get in the car and start it up I may or may not have these lights on. This happened 2 days ago. Now if I get in and start it up I get either the abs or the engine light or both. Some times I dont get any!!! usually within a few minutes of driving I get the ABS light. I feel no difference in the car at all. My question is this. Does anyone have any advice or input for me ? the car is a 2002 x-type with 77,000 miles awd 2.5 . thanks

Hey Trebor0301, nice to hear from you. Please takle a moment to introduce yourself and then I'm sure sombody will advise you to:
1 Get your codes read
2 Once you know what codes are, search the Forum for possible threads that may answer your queries.
3 Come on back and tell us what you've found or need help with.
4 Excuse me for being such a sh*t. Had to put my dog down today...looking for a distraction and somebody to take it out on. Nothing personal...

RE: Engine and ABS dash lights
Totally understand how your feeling. My dog is my best friend and I would be heartbroken to have to go thru what you are. As for myself....... I am a new owner of a 2002 x-type . It seems to be a great car. Fun to drive and a real head turner. The problem I have Im thinking might be a sensor. Today I brought it into Autozone but neither the abs or the engine light went on. when he checked the codes for me he said nothing was showing. I wonder if its because the warning lights werent on at the time. Little later and the abs went on again.I tried to get the abs to (do its thing) but it didnt seem to want to help me from skidding. Little later I felt my abs kick in at an icey stop. ???

Iys usuallyeither the common fault which is one of the rearspeed sensors rings on the outer cv joints or less likely the short length of wiringto one of the front wheel speed sensors. There is a how to check for the rear ones (usually brings up codes C1175 or C1165 depending on which side has corroded and loosened/come off).Cost to replace rear outer cv joint which includes the sensor ring is around £150all inc and cost to replace faulty wiring is around £10 for the wire from a dealer and £30 labour.

RE: Engine and ABS dash lights
Welcome aboard. Funny that there would be no codes stored if the CEL had been on as they should be stored until clear. The nice thing you'll find about this Forum is that for the most part any problems you've had someone else has had too. That's to say, you won't find many mysteries as most encounter the same few problems/diagnosis.
PS Pretty devastating after 15 years with the same pup...thanks for the sentiments.
