Smile Engine Air Filter Removal

I found where the engine air filter box is, however I am trying to figure out how to open so I can put in a clean filter. It has a couple of Phillips screws around the front of the box and side however the engine cover block access to the rear screws. Do I have to remove the engine cover? If so, is it a straight forward job of unscrewing the screws, taking off the oil filler cap and lifting off the engine cover? I just bought a 2003 XType with 23K miles on it. The car looks like new and drives like new. I traded a 11 year old MB for this car. Please help me

Adam, welcome to the forums. As for accessing the air filter, you have the right idea. Remove the 3 screws holding the engine cover down, remove the oil filler cap and then lift the engine cover out of the way. From there you will be able to access all the screws for the intake box. Lift and swap out the filters.

Thanks for the quick reply, one other question are there any wires attached to the engine cover that I should know about?

No. Remove the two screws and the oil cap and that's it. Very straightforward.

Smile Engine air filter

I changed the engine air filter yesterday, just like you all wrote on how to. The only problem was getting the rubber gasket around the oil filler neck around the engine cover. But I kept at it and finally got it. Again thanks for the advice.
