Engine Knock?

Engine Knock?
Hiya gang!
Today I gassed up my 2004 X-Type. Problem is, my son had previously put in Arco 91. I filled the rest with Chevron 91. There was high engine knock on idle and it sounded like a symphony of shake rattle and roll.
However, when we stopped, my son turned off the AC which was on Auto. The noticeable knocking ceased. Was it engine knock or AC issues? Have you ever heard of either under these circumstances?

RE: Engine Knock?
I will leave that to the techs.. I dont have a clue. But if the noise stopped with the AC off.. I would take a look at the drive belt right away... things can get expensive fast if something goes FUBAR there.
is that your car? It is a good looking sport model, I always like the darker colours. I also have to say that is the single best fitting hood I have seen on any car. you are lucky the gaps around the headlight, fender and bumper are nice and tight. Most others are all messed up.

If noise ceased with A/C off, likely compressor is culprit. Before going off the deep end and replacing it, look and make sure the compressor clutch is still on there, also make sure the nut is nice and tight. The nut holding the clutch on is known to back off. Belt is unlikely cause as would make noise a/c on or off. Still runs around the pulley. No harm in checking though.
