Engine management and abs lights .
Hi , the story so far...I got my x type 4 months ago , all was fine ,had a steering pump leak , had a new one fitted . Wheel bearing noise on near side , had a new one fitted , then my probs started... picked car up at garage and after 100/200 yards it went into safe mode ..10 /20 mph , I thought the brakes were on or something like that .Went straight back to garage , "can't do it now will give you a ring" never got back to me . As now I start the car and drive off , the engine management light stays on , the car is in safe mode 10/20 mph for 1/2 mile +/- . then the abs light comes on and the car is fine . If I turn the engine off the whole thing is repeated . I had a new abs sensor fitted a couple of days ago but it's just the same . I have had 2 diagnostic machines on it , but they can't read the abs .
Hope you can give me some clues . I look forward to hearing from you .
Regards , keithstephenson .

Keith,
(I've moved your post to the X-Type section to get more views and advice from owners with the same model)
A basic scan tool should read the powertrain (Pxxxx) codes and, if the MIL is illuminated, there must be Pxxxx codes set.
It will take something more sophisticated such as AutoEnginuity with the Jaguar Expansion to interrogate the ABS.

Thanks for that ,I have booked it in for later this week to do a "proper" diagnostic scan . Today just drove 70 miles no engine management light but engine sluggish, surging no power then abs light came on and off we went , less mpg than usual but same performance .
Thanks for your help ,keithstephenson .

Im sorry for your ABS troubles. My ABS light has a mind of it's own. The code C1288 says it's the pressure sensor. But when it rains the light goes out. Recently I replaced all the wheel nuts and guess what... the light is out again. I know it'll come back though.
Good luck. I'm looking forward to the answer.

Keith,
Please put your car details in your signature.
I don't know how old your battery is but a poor battery can cause all sorts of odd problems.
Check the battery voltage with the ignition on, engine not running.
If the scan shows up any non-P codes be sure to write them down (the actual code, not the interpretation) and post them here.
