Nabil M, while you should note how much oil goes into the engine, I would go off of what the oil dip stick says. There's a few variables in an oil change and returning the oil level to the full mark on the dip stick after an initial run is always best. Too little oil is an obvious problem, but having too much oil can also be an issue.

Dell, if you look on the dipstick, there is a hashed marking on the dipstick that indicates the level that the oil should be in. In an ideal world, you fill the engine up to the upper part of that marking. Granted, in the new cars, they don't have a dipstick. Instead, you have to let the engine be off for 10+ minutes and then let the car tell you the level of the oil. That always makes for a fun time checking the oil.

Dell, I kinda figured you were pulling my leg. But, at the same time, there are people out there that do not know certain things about cars and may take what you said for truth. So, which is scarier?
Nabil M, the amount of oil that you put in the engine can change. Something as simple as also putting in a new filter can make it so you need an extra 0.5 L/QT. Putting the plug back in too soon could leave a half pint/250 ml of oil in the engine. The quantity that they list in the book as I see it is a general idea of how much is needed. I always tended to buy 1 more bottle than was needed because I knew I would potentially be a little short if I bought just the minimum. But then, I am an avid believer in keeping the oil as high as possible in the engine. 2 thoughts on this: 1) more oil in the engine, even if the same amount breaks down, the overall percentage of oil that hasn't is higher, therefore things are getting more good oil, and 2) the more oil, the more time it can spend in the pad, therefore the cooler the oil is as it enters the engine, therefore, the oil does not break down as much because it doesn't get quite as hot. Are these ways to double the life of the oil. By no means. But, does it make it so I get more life out of an engine, I feel so.

In Australia, the fully synthetic oil for my 2.1L engine comes in 1 Litre bottles, 5 Litre bottles and 20 Litre bottles. I buy a 5 litre bottle and a 1 litre bottle. Even when I replace the filter (which is every service) I generally need a bit over 5 !/2 litres, so I have a bit left to put in a box in the boot (trunk) for times when I might need a small top up.

Follow Jaguar’s Specifications
DO NOT BELIEVE what anyone else tells you! Follow the manufacturer. There are MANY online parts catalogs with misinformation!
A few examples, the wrong wheel stud on an X350 (Matches a Lincoln LS since Ford owned then.). A turn signal “flasher” for an X300? (Uses ECU). The wrong thermostat housing for late year XJ8 (Used following year.).
As for different capacities FROM Jaguar, capacity is maximum it will hold. A service fill is always less because some residual oil is typically left and overfilling will damage your engine.
Jaguar put out this: Jaguar Publication Part No. JLR 15 96 10_3E
It covers models from 1997 through 2013. (I haven't found anything newer but TOPIX is primarily ONLINE based now! (Only a few manuals are still downloadable.)

Just did a engine flush, filter and oil change in my 2.1 over the weekend. Bought a 6L oil pack.
Initial cold fill to full dipstick took about 5.5L.
After engine start and the new filter primed, checked dipstick and I had to add in a further 300-400ml.
"Three fifths of bugger all" oil left from the 6l pack. :-)
