Default Is this engine "tick" normal (video)

I have been hearing a small tick, but never payed much attention to it. It sounds slightly like this lexus in the video, but minus the whine you hear in the background. My car isn't as loud as this tick, and isn't whining like you hear in this, but I think it may be a tick. Is this just a normal engine sound, or something more serious? Its almost identiecal to the sound in this video once the hood is open. I have an 02 x-type with 123,xxx.

I know right, I was worried when I heard it... I have 123,000 on my 02 and heard it. I hear horror stories about oil pans etc, and don't have the time to get anything fixed while in school. Let me know if you find anything out... Thanks!

FYI: your x-type is the same color as mine... nice pick....

Well I've never really looked into it, but thanks I like the color a lot!

The x-type engine should be whisper quiet at idle... not normal to make bad noises.

Sounds like lifter tick. Now, I don't know if these motors have hydraulic lifters but thats exactly what it sounds like.

Your video is for a Lexus, this is a Jaguar site so how would we know what it should sound like? The comments are interesting because it shows how little attention is paid when making a post. Nothing useful here.

@Tony -----if you actually read my post you would have understood why I posted that video. The lexus noise is the same noise my car is making... Please actually read the explanation before you call my post clueless...

You're right I didn't read it, I just went to the video. If I had I would have been even less tempted to say anything because listening to one car to diagnose another makes even less sense.

What a *****... How are you going to talk crap about someone posting a video that sounds close to the noise he is having and than bash everyone for not reading the description when in all reality you are the ignorant one that is just trying to get post counts up. Go to another Jaguar forum, this one isn't for rude people like you! It's for people that are kind and want to help each other out, not think their cool on internet bashing. Get a life kid.

JagXType620, don't know about the other guy, but it does sound like you've got a leaking gasket.

Steady on chaps, whilst it might have been more relevant to post a video or sound clip of the actual car with the worrying noise.

I can see the point of posting a similarities type video, when no film of the car is available., almost in the same way that we might use text to describe something sounding or looking similar to something else.

So the question is, is this type of noise normal for an 02 X Type with 123xxx?

+1 ....It may not be the absolute best example but an example nonetheless.

The OP is just looking for some help.
If you can't help or say something positive, don't say anything at all.
Unfriendly, unhelpful posts are not welcome here.

Hopefully someone can help this guy out and show what the forum is really all about?

Thanks for the help guys! Yeah the question is, is this type of noise all too abnormal for a higher mileage jag that's now 9 years old? I hear an occasional noise much like the one on the video, and was slightly concerned. If you think is is a problem, typically how difficult of a job is it? I will need to take it to a shop, but I have 123,000 on my car now, and want it to make it to about 140,000, then I will part with it. so you think this may be a big issue??????

Hey Jaguarnewbie; my 04 has 69,000miles and a similar sound; I can report that it has been there since 18,000 miles when I purchased the car and has remained the same since then to now. I have felt that the fuel injectors make a lot of clicking noise which could be the problem or a contributor

I have never considered it to be a problem that is unless another posts suggests otherwise then I may panic!

Right on! If you have something helpful or positive to post go for it.

Negativity can go on some other forum.

I have heard the clicking noise upon acceleration, and was wondering what that was. It's also really cold here in ohio, and the car seems to make weird noises in the winter. I am relieved that more people have the same sound with no issues. The last think I want is to see engine components starting to break down now. I'm not done with the car yet!!!! I want it to go another 20-30K
