Default English or metric?

My X-Type is missing a lot of the bolts that attach chassis and body parts, and others seem to be the wrong bolts. I assumed they would be metric, so I bought some 6mm-1.0 bolts and tried them. Those did not fit, so I thought that maybe, just maybe, they might still use English bolts in England. So I bought some 1/4-20 bolts. Those don't fit either. The heads of most of the bolts that seem to be the correct ones have hex heads that fit a 10mm wrench, but I have not tried to see if a 3/8 or 5/16 wrench would fit. So, what size are these bolts? 1/4-28? 6mm-0.75? Or some special Jaguar proprietary size?

All the bolts on our cars are metric.

Please keep in mind that there is also 2 different thread sizes too. So, not only do you need the correct diameter bolt, but you need to also get the correct pitch of bolt. This is where getting a large assortment of bolts and playing with what works where will be your best bet.

I think I've found both English and metric sizes. In addition, Ford uses even metric (8, 14, 18mm) versus the odd metric(7, 9, 13, 15, 17mm) that most European cars use. It's a mystery.
