Default Estate boot size difference 2.0/2.2 vs 2.5/3.0

New to the forum but couldn't find anything on this in past threads...

I'm buying a boot liner for my Jaguar X-Type estate / wagon. Car Mats UK (aka Boot Liners UK / Premier Products LTD) is saying that the trunk / boot size is different for the 2.0/2.2 estate and the 2.5/3.0 estate, regardless of model year (see chat thread below).

Thank you for the quick response.

The quilted boot liner is a fully tailored product and is designed to fit only the 2.0 and 2.2 models as they boot space is slightly different to the 2.5 and 3.0 model

We have tried and tested this and as this does not fit all 4 of the models we do list them separateley

Again I apologies for any inconvenience

(My Response)

Could you please clarify? To my knowledge, there is no difference in the boot for the 3.0 estate vs the 2.0/2.2 estate – the only differences are the engine and some equipment options.

Some of your competitors (Titan Covers, Hatchbag) sell the same fully tailored boot liner for the 2.0/2.2/2.5/3.0 Jaguar X Type estate, regardless of engine.

I much prefer the design of your liner and would like to purchase it if you can verify fit.

Thank you

It seems that Titan Covers and Hatchbag both sell boot liners that fit across X-Type estate models. Does it make sense to people that the diesel and gasoline estate boots would differ? I can't verify in person, as we only have gasoline versions in the US.

Why does it matter if the one you prefer sells "as this does not fit all 4 of the models we do list them separateley"

If they list yours, as they say they do,buy it. Even if there are (very) slight dimensional differences, I doubt they are enough to be much = and it's a boot liner!

I should have added that they re-did their web page to specify that it only fits the diesel versions. They only offer one version.

I will likely buy it and cross my fingers.

I also have the sportwagon and purchased a liner for the boot. There didn't appear to be an option related to engine size and the body is pretty much a regular Ford Mondeo. The liner I purchased fit perfectly.

I'm surprised the Mondeo estate boot is more or less the same... I read that Jag was proud of the estate being all-new from the b-pillar back.

Ended up ordering a custom quilted liner from "Over the Top" dog products. Supposedly a sister company of Titan Covers. It was over-the-top expensive, but they at least seemed confident it would fit well... will post a pic when it arrives.

I've been told by the wife that I must allow the dogs in the boot regardless of how pristine the carpet and seats currently are, so I've decided not to feel guilty over shelling out on a nice boot liner.

Default My Mistake

I apparently got the statement regarding the Jag and Ford Mondeo wagon similarity wrong. Here are pictures of 2006 Jag X-Type Estate Wagon and a Ford Mondeo wagon, and they are quite different.

Of course they are different! Will the x-Type/Mondeo myth NEVER die? It is painful to read it, especially on a Jaguar forum. But as some politicians know, the more often you repeat an untruth, the more likely it is to be believed.

aesthetically different but thankfully though mechanically they're more similar ...something as an X-type owner I actually like as it makes repairs a lot cheaper (LOTS of ford parts on my Jag)...I do wish they'd just used the Ford ECU and electrical system though as we could have all used FORScan instead the IDS/SDD pita.

I seem to recall hearing somewhere, only 12 or 14% of parts are common across x-type/mondeo???

There are a few differences between the X type and Mondeo especially with the suspension as I found to my cost.

I bought a pair of front wishbones off Ebay advertised as fitting " X type and Mondeo"
I drove around after fitting them and it was extremely dangerous. The braking was severely effected, the steering was all over the place and the suspension was up and down and rocking from side to side.

Took them off and compared them to the original ones and found that the new ones were 1/4" longer than the old ones. No problem getting my money back. I eventually put genuine X type on and all was well.

Be careful out there.

In fact, it would be far more accurate to say that "there are a few similarities" between the X-Type and the Mondeo. Let's put the X-Type = Mondeo myth to bed...that is for the uninformed to repeat ad nauseam.
