Default Exhaust sound too loud in cabin

I just installed Dynomax Super Turbos along with my full exhaust mod. The Magnaflows lessened backpressure and were way too loud. The Dynomax Super Turbos are quieter but still sound level is too loud in cabin. Has Anyone had experience with Dynomat? Does this sound deadener work well in trunk area?

You didn't reinstall the factory or an aftermarket resonator, if memory serves, correct?

I've used Dynamat a few times in the doors with pretty good results. It's not cheap stuff and the X isn't really a quiet car to start with, but, compared to hacking a resonator back into the system, I'd be inclined to give it a try in the trunk and doors.

Or turn up the radio!

Default Resonator

A glass pack (straight through baffled w/fiberglass muffler) is in place. I'm going to place Dynamat in trunk, especially spare wheel well.

You used a glass pack for the resonator? Interesting choice.

Come to think of it, there was a "sound blanket" that the dealers would install on your car if you were getting propshaft noise. It went the length of the shaft underneath the car.

Does your car have the blanket? I had one put on (under warranty) and it did cut some drivetrain noise, might help tame your exhaust a little.

You are just using straight thru exhaust tips, right? No baffles or anything in those?

Default Baffled exhaust tips

I was looking at baffled and non baffled exhaust tips. Have you heard of the baffled tips cutting down exhaust noise?

I think just the opposite really. I don't think there would be any noise reduction, however, it (baffles) may change the frequency or pitch of the exhaust note to be a little more palatable. Or a hell of a lot worse, hard to say!

I had some Monza Pacesetters (baffled) on a turbo Saab years ago and they seemed to break the sound up more so instead of a burble you'd get more of a brrrraaap type of noise. Not quieter, just different.

Really, the Super Turbos you have on there are not designed for much noise reduction, so you are probably going to see more gains from insulating the trunk than changing the tips. The only other thing would be going to a different muffler, but as this is already your second set I'm sure you don't want to do that, neither would I.

Last option would be to splice in another resonator on the main tube.

Default Either another set of mufflers or another resonator

I was thinking on the same note as you, either quieter mufflers or another in-line resonator?
I packed the trunk with blankets but they only had a very little dampening effect. I will see the muffler man and see what another resonator does. If no go then new mufflers. Any suggestions as to a brand of quieter but performance mufflers? The older-larger Jags used multiple mufflers and resonators.

I'd try the resonator before mufflers again, just to save some bucks.

gawd forbid that doesn't help, about all you have left are Flowmaster and Borla. I'd go with the Flow in that case.

Default Another resonator coming right up

I agree, another resonator will be on this coming Tuesday. I'll keep ya posted. Thanks Chris.
