Default Fan Control Module replacement

I have a UK model (RHD) 3.0 2007 Estate with an apparently dead fan control module (fan stuck on). It looks like I may be able to replace this without removing the radiator, has anyone done this? I was able to unplug the top fan connector by removing the lower airbox, I couldn't remove the top because it has some clip holding the hose on. I did attempt to remove the battery but that set the alarm off, is there a service mode to disable this? I think if I remove the battery tray I will have lots of room to work.

I did a module change on a friends car a few years ago. There is a bolt that holds the module to the fan shroud and when I took that off the shroud crumbled around it. It behaved like fibreglass and just fell to bits in my hands. I ended up attaching it with a zip tie, but it's clearly not designed to be replaced.

Driving down the interstate today with 103 degree temp outside the car was blowing 37-38 degree air. When I pulled off and was in traffic the temp went to 70 degrees plus. The fans are blowing but not what I would describe as "high speed". I would guess it's the fan control module. Anyone know where's the best place to get one?

Thanks in advance!
Chris

I purchased a new Gates module. Think it was about $350.00. When I replace it I will report back.

And thanks Dell!

Received the fan control module today. This is the one on my car I believe.

The one I received does not resemble this whatsoever. What am I missing here???

I would guess that you got the later module. I have the later module but the one I received only in initially only had three pins in the 'in' connector. I removed the batery and the airbox to get room to swap the units over, I used a power supply to keep the electrics alive and stop the alarm from activating. My plastics remained intact fortunately.
