Fitting sat nav unit. Any help?
I fancy getting the sat nav unit for my X-type but was not sure whether it would fit or be a big job to fit. I have manual heater controls, not the digital. I've heard something about wiring needing done if they're manual heaters and I know there's the actual dvd unit piece for the boot and gps aeriel required.
Also, can the unit be used as just a screen for an external dvd?
Anyone know the score?
Cheers.

If you have the manual dials then it really won't be cost effective to upgrade because you will be changing your climate control system as well.

Cheers Buck, can always rely on you for a good reply. Lol. I might send the X-Dave guy a message and see if he's still making or selling the harnesses. Might work out cheaper having someone make one than go out and buy all the wiring to do it myself. If I can get the harness made for me I can't see it being too expensive buying the remote climate control unit, DVD unit and cheap GPS aeriel.
If I can get it for a decent price I think it will be a worthwhile upgrade. Cheers Buck.

Its not just the remote climate control unit (RCCU) which are around £50 used.
Its the entire climate system, wiring, sensors etc which is going to be an expensive big job as you need this before you can start the upgrade with to nav.
Dave was making the harnesses but AFAIK he stopped after a while as it was taking him an age to make each one as he uses the proper connectors, diameter cabling, even with the Jag wiring tags and and it wasnt time or cost effective for him.

l17LED, if you are looking at doing this, I would recommend finding a wrecked X-Type that has all the parts that you are after and then taking everything out of that to make it work. Pretty much, you will be pulling out the dash of the wrecked car, taking most of the stuff from behind the dash and then installing that into your car. That will be the easier, quicker, and cheaper way to do it. Normally, if you talk to the wrecking yard and tell them that you want the whole system, they will cut you a break on the price. Will it be outstanding, probably not, but much cheaper than buying part by part as you figure out what you need. That will also have a factory harness already for you so no need to make up a harness (that can get expensive, trust me!!!!!)
