Fluid Changes??
Well I now have just over 60,000 miles on my 03 2.5 auto. I am starting to look into preventative maintnance. I would like to slowly start changing out all of the fluids in the vehicle. I dont mind spending a good amount of money for the best fluids, but I dont know what they are. Please list what fluids I can change and if there hard to do myself. Should I go by the old addage " if it aint broke dont fix it?"

RE: Fluid Changes??
Id use BMW coolant for the radiator. It is good stuff and reasonably priced. I dont trust other stuf.. I am sure the Jag stuff is good but I am afraid to ask the price.
Power steering fluid... I dont know.
Brake Fluid. Get the ATE Dot 4 SL.6 this is a Super dot 4 fluid and specially made for dsc cars. Get it at the tire rack.
auto tranny.. i dont know.
transfer case.. use redline 75w140synthetic gear oil
rear diff.. same as transfer case.
that royal purple stuff is supposed to be good. I dont have any experience with it.
I think the addage is wrong. maintenance is needed. lifetimefill means lifetime for warranty. You will be bankrupt later on if you dont do the maintenance.

RE: Fluid Changes??
Lot of pros and cons here..But at risk of being chastized for my 35 years of automotive exprience...
I would have the dealer do the transmission fluid change at least..But the rear diff is not too tricky, and the transfercase is a bit of a challenge too as I'm finding out, but doable(read the threads below on the subject)...Engine coolant should have been changed a couple of times already (with Jaguar Anti-freeze concentrate)..the brake fluid should have been bleed at least every two years (I used Jaguar Brake fluid)...Power steering should have been replaced too with the Mobil brand Jaguar uses.
As far as what to use?
I would use top quality synthetic lubes and fluids in the transfercase, rear diff and engine oil as far as the DIY stuff.
Good luck.

RE: Fluid Changes??
I would defer that to our Jaguar tech...But a simple drain and refill wouldn't hurt IMO (mind you,it don't exchange all the fluid that way, only about 2/3 gets drained) My Land Rover had a JATCO tranny as well and I drained it and refilled three times, driving about a 100 miles between each drain/fill.

For the brake fluid flush I second the ATE Super DOT4. I alternate on my Callaway 944T track car between the "Super Blue" and Typ 200 (gold color) that way you know when you have fresh fluid running through your line and not wasting it.
I am near 60k and looking into replacing my manual tranny fluid, tranfer case, and reardiff fluid as well.

Does the rear differential and manual trans require the same 1.75L of fluid? And does the transfer case, rear diff, and trans all have magnetic drain plugs?
Thanks!!

manual trans is MTL, - ya 1.75 litres I think. I forget if the plug was magnetic.
TC has 600ml from the factory , but you cant get it all out, the refill amount is 550ml. the drain plug is magnetic, the fill plug is not accessible, you need to fill through the drain hole.

THIS IS NOT WHAT I AM REFERRING TO.... be careful what you choose for brake fluid. It needs to be SUPER DOT 4. not super blue. it is not the same thing. from ATE, it is called dot 4 SL.6 check here http://www.ate-na.com/generator/www/...bf_sl6_us.html

Sorry, I was unaware of the new ABS electronic spec ATE brake fluid. My newest car to date other than the Jag was a 1989. I assumed (my mistake) that when looking over my dad's 2004 Porsche 911 40th Anniv and seen that it had ATE Super Blueso I took it as that what was the factory fill and it has ABS, stabilty control, and suspension management systems.
Thank you for the info on the SL.6 ATE fluid. I will make sure that is what I get for the Jag when it comes time.

Rear diff has no drain plug, refill is 1.2 litres of 75w140 synthetic ( jag specifies there must belimited slip additives although it is not a LS diff )

The Amsoil Sever Gear 75w140 lube states it is compatible with most LSD units. https://www.amsoil.com/storefront/svo.aspx
Would this meet the need for Limited Slip additives or would I need a supplemental additive:

Thanks in advance!

RE: Fluid Changes??
Hey Chas...
The only way I can see to drain the the rear Diff would be to as our Jaguar tech said..somehow work a tube down to the bottom through the fill hole and suck it out with something..or remove the pumpkin shell and drain it that way...the first option seems easier as there is just about a hands thickness clearence to the suspension member just behind it..Either way, it looks to be a beotch of a lot of tight squeezes.[:@]

RE: Fluid Changes??
I dont know the amsoil products and a call to their 800 help line would probably be a decent idea.
The funny thing is that Jag specifies a LS diff oil, yet there is no LS.... So I gotta question it a bit. I suspect that the 75w140 will work fine without additives.
Redline sells the 74w140 both with and withing the additive already in it. to match the Jag spec it needs to be with LS stuff, but makes no real sense.
I am going to suck my fluid out somehow.... maybe a project for this weekend....

RE: Fluid Changes??
The diff and t-case lube is a Ford spec # for synthetic 75w140 axle lube that is nothing special. Pick your favorite poison. As for the LS part, a friction modifier is requiredwith this lube if it's going in a vehicle so equipped, so I'm not sure why Jag calls it that.

RE: Fluid Changes??
I went to the Jag dealer and they wanted 90 bucks for a litre of diff oil.. I asked to see it and it was Castrol differential oil... with a big "made for BMW" on the label.
I then asked the BMW dealer how much for the same oil, they said 40 bucks a litre.
I then called castrol and said where the hell can I buy this liquid gold? They said that they do not import it to north america.. that the dealers get it on their own. They have no equivalent product available in N/A. I then called Redline and asked if their oil meets the spec of the castrol oil, they said only the limited slip enhanced product meets the spec..

Good to know, thank you for the footwork bojangles!
I find the huge variance in price between dealers interesting.
I spoke with an Amsoil tech rep and he had this to say: "AMSOIL SVG, 75W140 gear lube is the best recommended replacement for Ford WSL-M2C192-A."
