Question fogging inside the windows

Hi guys, I know I shoulda done a better search but am at work & short on tie. PLEASE HELP... Got the wife an '03 x-type(98k miles) in Nov. Its fogging ALL the windows on the inside on a regular basis. So much so that in this cold weather there's ice forming on the inside. In the old days I'd suspect the heater core. I'm not getting any leaks inside the car or other indicators that its the problem but I'm no mechanic either. I'm getting plenty of heat & air flow from the blower. I noticed today that if I crack a window about 1/4" they want to clear up a little better but still not completely. Any one have this happen to them that can tell me what the fix was? Thanks in advance...

Find the button that opens a vent to let in outside air. You're likely recirculating the same air over and over...if the heater core were leaking, you'd smell a sickening sweet smell or see it putting moisture all over the windows (not in freezing temps). If the thing were plugged, you'd have no heat. Never had a car with a plugged one.

Do you have the heat in auto? Don't worry if the AC light comes on.

The recirculation door could be stuck. Test it as described in the TSB provided in this thread...

On the X300/X308/XK8 and XK, blocked A/C drains can cause this problem. The X-Type could be similar.

There is a single Evaporator Drain Tube on the X-Type:

fogging inside the windows-drain.jpg

This could be blocked preventing condensate draining and turning it to steam when the heater is on.

I've never had the 'pleasure' of doing an X-Type heater so have no idea how to access this Drain to check.

I'm not getting any leaks inside the car
Two sources of leaks ( unlike finding wet carpets) that are not so obvious, inside the doors if the membrane has failed and also in the spare wheel well.

Check you A/c filter ( Under the scuttle & wiper arms ) It may be old & soaking wet. I find if I sit for a little longer than usual before I set off with heater on full heat & air direction on screen ( A/c will default on anyway ) , Screen/side windows demist pretty quick .

+1 on the blend door. Fairly easy DIY. Search will have a few threads on it.

+1 for the blend door.
I had same problem when I first got my car and it was the blend door behind the pollen filter. Jammed closed and not opening.
I forced it open and fastened it in the open position.
No more issues.

Well, I took the info you guys provided with me to have the car checked. Turns out the rec. door is stuck & broke. And from the door being stuck the door motor has burned out. They're saying they have to pull the dash to make the necessary repairs. Hope my pockets are deep enough...

Very unlucky that the door is broken.

Jaguar have used a similar system on a number of different models and it's usually the stepper motor operating the door that burns out.

Looking through the Workshop Manual procedure, it certainly is a major piece of work to take the whole unit out.

Mine has been broke for 2 years now. No problem, just prop it open a little in the fall to stop the windows from fogging up and then make sure you shut it in the spring for max. AC. It's also a good time to check for dirt and debris and the cabin filter.

Yep same here. Mine was broken as well. Save your money prop it open and fasten it with plastic tie wraps or something. Problem solved for nothing.
