Default Front Wheel Bearings for 2005 X-type 3.0

I took my 2005 X type to PepBoys for brake inspection, upon checking the car the guy told me the brake pads are good but I need to replace the Front Wheel Bearings on both sides, also need to get new tires.

The quote I received for Bearings: $518.00 (2 bearings) and $336.00 for Labor
Tires Coopers Brand: $560.00 and $226.00 for install, tire balance and warranty.

I called Nalley for the bearings they quoted me less than $50 for each bearing.

Default Wheel Bearings

I took off the spindle myself and Hastings Auto on John R @ 9 Mile installed them for $30.00 each. While I had the spindles off, I also installed new ball joints as old ones had over 120,000 miles on them, though, not in too bad of shape. Good luck. Al

I ordered the OEM SKF bearings from Rock Auto $97 (2 bearings incl shipping), I will go to Hastings Auto to get them pressed. Thanks again.

Default Timken bearing???

I just pulled both front spindles off my '04. Took them to my Jag mechanic with the new timken bearings. He immediately pointed out that the new timken bearing doesn't have one black plastic side which would be the side that faces the abs sensor. Did you have a similar experience? All the part stores and sites show this same bearing as the replacement?

Yes I did. Found out that was the difference between the $35.00 bearing and the $97.00 ones. Being in rust belt, I lost the rear cog that usually rots off so I just let it go for now.

Either online at several locations. Tie Rod End - Motorcars LTD is one or go to dealer and give Ms. Elder some more of your money. If you tell the parts guy you are in the Jaguar Club you get a 10 or 15% discount. Great club if you aren't a member yet.

All I've seen on inner tie rods is there only serviceable as part of the rack and pinion. Funny though, I was putting my knuckles with there new bearing back on and proceded to snap the threads clean off with my impact on the left outer tie rod. So I'll be shopping for one of those!
