Made an 8 hour run across Western North Dakota and Eastern Montana yesterday, all with cruise control set at 75mph (120 kmph), average altitude 2500 ft. average temperature 92f (33C), ait-conditioner on the whole way, no load other than self and passenger, and averaged 24.56 mpg !!!
It's a 2002 2.5 X-Type auto with 55k on the odometer, and it did indeed purr like a kitten the entire run. I only romped on the pedal once - to 90 mph - to get out of a "bind" with a couple of oilfield and cattle-truck drivers, but used no more than a dime's worth of gas for that I am guessing.
Am pretty sure that I am running the original spark plugs, and should be able to bump up the milage a bit when replaced.
For some strange reason, there were a gob of Corvettes on the freeway yesterday. Just about each and every one gave an approving "nod" to the Jag, as did the State Trooper that threw me a glance - as he was writing up a ticket for some poor slob - that I read as "Gee, if I had just waited 5 minutes I could have written up a Jaguar!".
