Default Fuel pump change, left over pieces

Putting everything back together after dropping the fuel tank to replace the fuel pump, I notice there is a small hard rubber or soft plastic tube coming out of the top of the differential, maybe 2 feet long. I have no idea where this tube went before I started so no idea where it is supposed to go. Does it just vent to atmosphere? Or is it supposed to be plugged in somewhere?

Also the carbon canister "vapor separator" appears to vent to atmosphere. It looks unusual because it has a barbed fitting, as though a rubber hose should be attached there. Does this vent to atmosphere?
