Default Fugdged up my steering

So yesterday, i was driving and went to trun, my car just slid and kit the curb very hard. Got out checked for damage, nothing other then the rim a bit discolored. Get in Drive and park it. Come back a couple hours later get in, the sterrring is completely effed. In order for me to go straight,i have to hold the wheel at a 90 degree angle, and right turn are messed, left is fine though. I hit the right wheel, and when i put the steering wheel straight, the left whel is straight while the right wheel is slight turned in ( looks like im taking a left turn) but not by much. I think its possible and alignment issue? Any ideas and the cost. I can get pic if that would give a btter idea.

Doesn't sound like a wheel/alignment issue. Like Buck said, you bent something in the steering and/or suspension. Doesn't sound like a job for a chain tire store. Could be a safety issue and should be checked out right away to confirm.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune.

Disco, sounds like you damaged the tie rod/tie rod end at a minimum. But, if you messed up the brakes, it most likely also hurt the hub assembly. Assuming you just damaged the tie rod end and need a new hub, you are looking at $50 for the tie rod end, another about $200 for the hub (exact price could not be found via http://www.jaguarparts.com), then you are looking at about $80 for an alignment, plus probably another 3 hours of labor at $100/hr. So, all said and done, you are looking at probably about $630 out the door (in USD). Now, if you bent the strut (can be visually checked by seeing if the top of the tire sticks out further than the bottom in relationship to the body), then you can add another hour or so in labor and $110 for the strut. Beyond that guess, it will take someone knowledgeable of the car to get in there and see what was tweaked and what all needs to be fixed.

So assuming fromt hat, i cannot take it to may local fountain tire. And that was one of my guesses that the tir rods are shot. I did not think that so much damage could be done by simply sliding into a curb going only 10km/h, but the weitght defintily rendered it useless. So, according to u guys, should i take it to the european auto shop, or do u think the fountain tire guys could be work?

Disco, from my experience with tire shops, they will correct the tie rod issue (if there is one), they will even replace the strut if that is messed up. But, if the hub has anything wrong with it, you will end up at the other place soon enough. That is beyond the capability of the tire shops.

Granted, from my experience too, the tire shops are going to tell you that you need this laundry list of stuff that needs to be fixed. Some of it will be legit, but they will go into overkill to make sure they get the problem fixed. What this means for you is less money left in your wallet at the end of the day. So, your call.

well, it turns out that all our cars at home were stuck, and mine wasn't, so when i got the car back from my father, the engine light was on, and omething had happened to the brakes. He will be paying for it, i just want everything back to normal, and don't want to put anything off for two long. So this is what im think, DRIVE it ( i know stupid right) or tow it to fountain tire, see what they say, and if its a simple tie rod issue, alignment, i let them fix it, if not time to move to the big boys. I caan't belive this happened from such a low speed, like wtf?

Sorry about that Disco. I knew that storm was coming and ended up buying a 4x4 the night before. The four grand I spent has meant Kitty doesn't have to go out on these roads. Time for her to take a few months off. You can give Kal tire a try but you may end up seeing Gerry.

Disco...whatever you do, DON'T DRIVE THAT CAR!!!

What you more than likely did was what some of the others were saying...BUT, a tire shop isn't the place to get it fixed (like Alpha said). You need to take it to a suspension shop. Tie-rod ends, steering stabilizers, boot, etc. I did the same thing in a 2004 Dodge Intrepid last year. My insurance covered it (since I actually had to swerve to miss another car, and ended up on the curb). It came out to around $2000 to fix it all. Plus, if I'm correct, aren't X-types AWD? That could also mean you F'ed up your driveline to the front wheels, the tranny, etc. NOT a job for a tire or quick alignment chain.

Disco, because you are having issues with the ABS, I am venturing to guess you have a bad hub (since the ABS sensor reads off of the hub assembly). So, you can plan on a new hub. Don't want to be the messenger of bad news, but that is how things are looking.

As for whether you drive the car to the shop or not, my gut is telling me no since you are only likely to do more damage and drive the price up that much higher. But, if that is what it takes, just be gentle. You know the status of the car much better than we do.
