Default Full size spare tire question..

Thanks to the snow ruining the roads here in NY I have to get one of my rims fixed. I have my old set of tobagos and wonder if I can use one of the rims/tire as a full size spare without damaging the AWD system. I remember a thread a long time ago and people had mixed views about using different treads.

The tires on the tobagos are not in the greatest shape but it would only be for a few days while I get my rim fixed.

It would be on the front D/S..

Pete, without knowing the different tire sizes in question, it is really hard to say yes or no to this. What I would recommend doing is getting online and finding a tire calculator and punching in both tire sizes. if they are both within about 0.3 inches of each other in diameter, then you should be fine. But, with that being said, less time is better. The AWD system is designed to have some slippage allowed (else you would damage the drive train every time you turned), but now you are eating into that allowable slippage.

It is the same size rim/tire.. 16 inch to 16 inch.. Same tire size too.. Just the stock conti tire is worn but usable until the rim is fixed.

Pete, if it is the same size tire, then don't worry about it. A little bit of wear is not going to make that big of a difference. Go for it.

Alright thanks.. Thats what I was hoping for.

Now I will have to put up with a ugly tobago for a few days while my rim gets fixed...
