Can anyone help me with this please. I've just bought an overhead console with garage door opener of ebay. I think this was a US part and isn't compatible with my UK car. The new part has a 22 pin plug mine has two 3 or 4 wire plugs/sockets, presumably one for the lights and one associated with what I think are microphones for the phone system.

Can someone tell me firstly will I be able to even open a UK garage door using an American? part. And can someone provide me with a wiring diagram so I can make some sort of adapter. I don't want to go chopping wires and soldering directly to new unit.

There are not US/UK variants, but there are versions depending on whether the garage door opener is fitted or not. As you have discovered, the one with the door opener has a printed circuit board with a 20 pin connector and is not compatible with your set-up. Must be easier to get another console than think about re-arranging the wiring. Don't forget there are other variations depending on options such as front and/or rear parking sensors. Check out the different types and colours available on Ebay.

I've sent the thing back, I didn't realise there would be difference in wiring between models. A lot of x types come pre wired for other extras so I thought this may be similar.
The wiring diagrams will come in handy at some point though.
