Default Gauge Cluster problems

Hi Everyone
My 02 x-type is doing some odd things in the cluster area.

Everything works, minus A/C, Cruise control

after 28mph or so abs and traction lights come on.

and sometimes the brakes pulsates like on ice within the first initial stop.

randomly the tach and speedometer shut off completely while driving at any speed. not bumps, as it did it on a flat fresh paved road doing around 72 mph, it shut off and all warning lights come on including the passenger air bag light. this happens everyday during my 40 mile trip to work on the highway/freeway. Today for example the dash worked fine except the abs/traction control light came on after 30mph.

temperature gauge does not work at all.

I have a used cluster in my trunk but am weary of installing it.

battery is at 12 volts

charges is 15.6

any help would be great,

thanks, and love the Forum! Fixed a few issues just by reading the posts.

Jon, based on what you are describing, you have 2 wheel speed sensors that are going out on you (most likely the rear ones). Get the codes read and what you are specifically looking for are C1145, C1155, C1165, and/or C1175. If you have any of these, you have a wheel speed sensor that is bad. If you are getting some other codes, post them here and I will give them a look over and see if I can figure things out from there.

On a side note, if you loose a single wheel speed sensor, that will cause your ABS lights to come on as it sees one wheel stopped and the other 3 rolling. So, it thinks that the brakes are locked up and it is trying to pulse the brake system to get the wheel to roll again (hence the pulsing that you are feeling). When the second wheel speed sensor goes away, the computer doesn't know what to think as it sees 2 wheels spinning and 2 wheels not. It gets confused and to tell the driver there is a problem, it drops the speedo to zero.

Hopefully this helps explain what you are seeing.
