gear box fault
strange thing happened today while driving my 2002 jag Xtype 2.5 sport auto with 80,000miles. Went to the car wash to wash all this damn yellow pollen off my jag. after going thru the auto no touch car wash starting driving home when the gear box fault light came on and car started to shifting real hard and ithad no power kinda like starting out inhigh gear. drove home going about 5 miles per hour " that Sucked" and car was down shifting then up shifting the whole way home. when i got home i let the car cool off and restarted the fault light was off and the car ran great again. any ideas out their. Man im scared to drive it now.

I'll bet some electrical connector got some water in it and cause a bad signal to be sent to the tranny<->computer...which may have cause the the limp mode..

If you cleaned the engine it is common for fault lights to come on.
Just keep an eye on it.
For future reference, when the car goes into limp home mode, pull over, shut it off and restart. It should behave normally again until it sees fault again. 80k on original X-Type trans? Buy a lottery ticket mate.

RE: gear box fault
yea; the only thing major that went out is the a/c compressor. I too thinkan electrical connection got wet when the unit washed the under side of the car. by the responce, i guess its common for the tranny to fail before 80k? now that would suck yea the money right out of my bank account. should i get the tranny fluid changed?
thanks,

Hey Ron..
I would have the tranny fluid changed..but you are gonna crap your BVDs when you see how expensive the Jaguar Fluid is..Jaguar ATF Fluid= $50.75/qt and I understand you'll need about 8 qts for a drain and refill...I have did some extensive research into this and found the only Fluid that will meet and be compatible with the JATCO fluid is Valvoline MaxLife ATF...I'm not 100% sure of this yet, but Valvoline stands behind their recommendation..it's the best I've found so far to meet all the specs of the JATCO tranny..
Good luck

Gear box fault and engine fault!
i had that happen to my xtype a little over a month ago. (should be a thread her somewhere with me whining about it)
my issue was the throttle body went bad.
limp home mode sucks, i went three bloks before i called emergancy roadside service. i wasnt about to drive 5mph for 7 miles!!!
also check if your tranny is on this bad tranny list!

There are a few common thing you can check. Pull open the bonnet and look for tube that may have a crack in it. I'm not sure if 2.5l motors had this problem as well as 3.0 but i know many people have had this problem but I think they were all 3.0. Watch to see if it happens only when wet...
