I just got my 2002 jaguar x-type 3.0 about 3 weeks ago now. Today while in the parking lot of cvs it would not start and gave me a "gearbox fault" message. I walked to advanced auto to just ask about it which was a block away and they didn't know anything but when I got back to my car it started back up and the battery light came on. As I drove it home it was clunking the whole way so it is now parked in front of my house and I am waiting for my boyfriends friend who sold it come look at it. I can't seem to find any answers on Google or YouTube so hopefully someone can help me out here.

 

Angelina, welcome to the Forums. Lots of good people here and all the information that you are going to need to make your kitty purr. But, please stop by the New Member Section and give us a little intro as to why you bought the car and a little about yourself. We pride ourselves in being a better car group and as part of this, we try to be like family.

As for your problem, I would first start with getting a load test done of your battery. This can lead to a lot of the problems that you are seeing. If you get anything back that says the battery is at 75% or less capacity, replace the battery. Ours cars are very picky about the battery that is in it and if it is starting to get weak, it can cause some crazy things to happen. After that, I would be looking at the battery cables to make sure that they are in good condition. These have also been known to give a lot of grief and problems that come and go for no apparent reason.

Lets see what you have at that point and we can go from there.

 

It was my battery I replaced it with a new one and no more problems.
