Default Gearbox Fault Message

I have just changed my TPS as I'm still chasing a slight hesitation when lightly pressing the accelerator. The 2.1 engine should not need to have TPS set, as it is a cable operated system. I started the engine and revolutions rose to a much higher rate than normal. Also, the MIL light illuminated and a message appeared on screen saying, GEARBOX FAULT. Why has this happened? How do I fix it (or erase light/message? Thanks for any clues or suggestions. I should add, the new TPS, when inserted, did not align exactly with the holes for the retaining bolts, so I had to move to slightly against internal spring tension to fit the bolts.

I should have added - I have no other codes except for a TPS low voltage'pending' one.

What TPS did you end up getting and fitting?
If the TPS is not effectively returning back to the ECM's expected rest position, you will get TPS errors and possibly going into limp mode.

I hunted for ages to find a suitable TPS for my 2.1.
There a plenty of similar looking ones, but the drive spigot was in wrong resting position on most.
Walker Products sensor (part# 200-1060) is what I fitted and did a bit of summary write up back then too.

I did end up finding that there was a small amount of movement in the TPS screw mounting holes that I used to lower the RPM.

Thanks, Mark. Today I removed the new TPS and installed the old one. On startup, the gearbox fault immediately disappeared and the idle speed went back to normal. I should have tried this BEFORE I posted my gripe, but I am sorry to stuff that up. I guess the aftermarket TPS is faulty and that is caused by poor workmanship in setting them up. I paid extra in the hope it was a quality one, but I see it was made in China and is probably the same item as all the other traders are selling at lower prices. I will order another one and will certainly consider the Walker one. Phew, a big worry has been removed and I guess (for the time being) I will put up with the minor hesitation that I have. Thanks again, and to all other readers who may have to go through this. Cheers and Beers.

Silly thing...but check your oil dipstick is a tight fit, that the small O rings are making a solid tight seal.
If in doubt, remove it and put a temporary bung in to see if you happen to get any change.

I recall reading somewhere that a leak there can cause some odd instability.

Wow, that's interesting, Mark. I will test that. Thanks again.
