Default Going to test drive an 07 - a few questions

I'm thinking about replacing my current car in a few months, so I've been doing a lot of test driving lately.

I drove a 2004 S-Type last week and today I'm testing out a 2007 X-Type.

Here's the car:
http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail.jsp?paId=347575002

Is this a reasonable asking price set by the dealer?

Also, I was just curious, aside from the AWD/RWD and only having one engine choice, what are some other pros/cons with the X-Type from the S-Type?

Seems about 5k too high IMO. Manheim Market Report (what that car would sell for at a dealer auction is around 13k). At that price you're giving the dealer 7k for putting it on their lot. 2-3k is a reasonable mark up as they do have bills to pay!
Not sure what you mean about engines, the x type has a 2.5 and 3.0. I would suggest a manual tranny over the auto as it is a little more reliable.

For comparison I got a base 2.5 manual tranny 05 xtype 98k miles for 6k from a new car dealer this past winter.

The 3.0 in the X-type is the same engine as the 3.0 in the S-type. There is also a 2.0 but it's better to go with the 2.5 or 3.0.

I can't comment on the car price, as I'm in Canada and they sell for more up here. A 2007 would be about 20k cdn asking.

Are they offering a warranty with it?

The link does not show the car. Is the car being sold at a Jaguar dealer? I have seen them at Jaguar with 30k miles for around $19,000 and they come certified with the select warranty.

They are great cars and if you take care of your X it will take care of you. I have a 2.5 manual and I am partial to the manuals. You could get a 3.0 manual but they are rare to come by.

It's being sold at a Ford dealer and it comes with a 4yr/50k mile warranty. So there are 9 months and about 10,000 miles remaining.

Here's another link:

I was really impressed by the car. The interior design and contrast in materials was amazing--the handling was confident and not too loose. Little to no understeer-very easy to steer. It absorbs bumps very well--excellent visibility. Smooth power, not too aggressive or jarring on the body.

Any other suggestions or comments?

I sent an email asking for $16,250.

Later model cars seem to have all the teething problems worked out by 2007 compared to earlier ones, like 2002-2003. Should be very reliable if it was taken care of up to this point. Not sure what those cars go for in the Detroit area, but I would think you could get it for even less than that. Xs don't have the best reputation as far as reliability because of the earlier cars and are a tough sell for dealers making it easier to bargain. If this one doesn't work out keep searching and I'm sure you will find the right one for you. I think they are great cars and great bargains.

2005 was the last year Jaguar offered a manual transmission and if I'm not mistaken after 2005 they also discontinued the 2.5 engine as well.

Guess I'll take a shot at comparing the two models because I've owned 2 X-Types, and, now an S-Type. I had both a 2.5 and a 3.0 X - both with automatics. My current car is an S-Type VDP with the 4.2 V8. The X-Types are excellent in foul weather, corner pretty good, and are decent performers. The 3.0 X is a bit quicker than the 3.0 S, but, the S gets better fuel economy because it has a 6 speed tranny vs. the X's 5 speed. The 4.2 S is substantially quicker than the 3.0 X, and, the S-Type R is the quickest of all. On long trips, the X, with its AWD, has a good bit of drivetrain noise cruising at interstate speeds, and, its ride is stiffer. The S-Type rides better and corners pretty decently as well. It's very quiet at interstate speeds, and, IMO, less tiring to drive on long trips. It's foul weather performance is decent, but, not as good as the X Types. Surprisingly, my V8 model, on trips, delivers much better fuel economy than either of my X Types did. Hope this helps.

Sounds like a fair price as they should make a tidy profit on it and you should get what looks to be a solid car.

I would be surprised if they agree to that price as manheim price is nowhere near 13k. Here are the lasts sales with as close to milage as you have and they are all 16k plus.

Doot!!! I looked up a 2006 Model Year. About 16k is what they'd pay for a 07 with similar miles. 18-19 seems reasonable.

I recently helped a friend buy a 2007 X Type w/ navigation and 32K miles for $20K, at the Jaguar dealer.

The first choice was a 2006 X type w/o navigation with 10k miles on it for $19K ( it had the alpine stereo and everything else except for navi) but it got sold while my friend was pondering the deal!

In any case, I have a 2007 x type as well ( I bought it new) and so far has been flawless! I recently bought an XF as well so we are an all jag family now. The x type for some reason feels more special to me. Can't explain it logically

Based on my experience the 2 most useful features to have are the upgraded alpine audio. The 10 speakers + extra power and better speakers h
Make a huge difference. The next is the ACM. I have an iPod connected permanently to my ACM.

To me the navigation and touch screen are nice to have. I haven't used the navigation on a year since my iPhone does a better job with routing. Much better.

I really like the 06 VDP, but the 07 probably still has a warranty on it...

If the factory warranty has expired, how much would it cost to get some sort of warranty from the dealer? Like, for 10,000 miles?

This is why it is good to purchase pre-owned X from a Jaguar dealer. It comes with a select warranty that is included with the price of the car.

Say you are looking to buy a 2007 X Type: At some point depending on when it first went in for service the FACTORY warranty is going to expire in 2010. With the select warranty you have piece of mind until 2013.

Its well worth it..

If you buy an X from any other dealer other then Jaguar you are going to pay extra for a warranty. The price of the X may be cheaper but add a warranty and the price goes up. And make sure where ever you are going to have the car serviced at accepts that warranty. Where as if you have the select warranty any Jaguar dealer will do the service.

Hey thanks for the advice.

I'm going to check this car out tomorrow:
http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail.jsp?paId=351352854

Anything else that I should keep in mind?

Could it be possible to negotiate an ACM install, wheel locks, and window tint included in a dealer offer?
