Unhappy GTR badge on back of 2002 jaguar x-type?

I have just bought a ferrari red 2002 jaguar x-type from my uncle down in washington. Everything is in good shape and is running correctly, however, I am very curious about the GTR badge on the back of the jag. The GTR badge is something much like what u would find on a nissan gtr. I know the gtr logo has some significance across the sports car world, but what does it mean. My uncle claims that the guy he bought it from said that this jaguar was very rare and only a handful of jaguar gtrs have been produced, or at least in the x-type version. Could have the man just badged the jaguar with a gtr badge or is it legit?

No X-Types carrying the 'R' badge were ever made as far as I know. Nor can I find any Jaguars that were GT-R models for that matter - but I def could be wrong.

My guess is someone bought the badge off of ebay and stuck it on there.

RedCat, someone sold you a whole trailer full of BS. No X-TYpe was ever made with any sort of badging relating to GTR ( or R, or R-S, or ....). Someone was trying to get a few extra dollars for a car that they knew was nothing special. unless you can prove me wrong. As a general standard, when the X-Type got an upgrade (only ones being the Sport package or the Executive), it was done with an upgraded interior with special things that were only available on those editions. A picture of the interior will tell us a lot.

If its an '02 3.0 Sport (you can tell as there is no chrome in the bumper blades or around the window trim as we,ll the grill surround is body color) in "Phoenix" (the bright red) then its fairly uncommon but certainly not in the rare category. No such thing as anything with an "R" in an X-Type. Hope your uncle didn't pay extra...

RedCat There's there's never been an R version, or a GTR version, or anything like it. There are only 2 engines (2.5 and 3.0) in the US, and all of them are 4WD and all have ABS. The "Sport" version - there are no badges or labels - amounts to different colors here and there, different wheels, and (I think) "Dynamic Stability Control" (the traction control button.) There's a thread on here somewhere that says the format of your VIN can tell you if yours is a Sport model or not through the presence of a specific digit in the Nth location.

Peel the GTR badge off - it's some previous owner's ego enhancement, and your car will look better without it.

Sport sedans have "53" in VIN characters 6 & 7

Lets not forget the "Indianapolis" remodel - of 2003/4. which was marketed as a Limited Edition Sports Model (Usual Sports Exterior with unique Woodgrain interior) upgraded with 'R-class' 18" x 8.5" BBS Indianapolis Alloys (expensive) and a rear "Indianapolis badge"

Funnily enough - just like mine .....
