Dropping the front end is the easiest cause of the transmission, which cannot be removed from the top without some extremely fancy moves. The cars are designed this way. Dropping it from the bottom is fairly easy, then you just jack the car up really high an put the the entire engine/transmission assembly on a floor jack and pull it out...... it can be a little trick to get the car up high but it can be done.

Great time to swap in a 3.0!!!
Drop the engine w/subframe down as advised. Procure a salvaged low mileage 3.0 with its ECU and ignition keys for approx. $1200- $2000 (I attained a 2005 3.0 w/48k for $950 (worked out to $1200 due to $175 shipping and $120 for 90 day warranty). I'm not sure if auto. trans. are the same for 2.5 and 3.0. If not, they will deliver both engine and trans (attached). Members here (including myself) will help guide you through this process. While 3.0 is out bolt on a pair of 1999 Ford Taurus 3.0 DOHC exhaust manifolds (out flows stock like no tomorrow), send em through a single cat under the floor pan instead of abutting against engine (cooks oil, etc.), eventually dumping into a pair of MagnaFlows (may yield 40 h.p. and 20 lb./ft. trq.). Check out my threads describing my low mileage 2005 3.0 for a failed 2002 3.0 engine complete exhaust mod/swap. You will smile when you experience the 3.0's h.p and trq. advantages. Be well and happy holiday.
