Headlight problem....

Headlight problem....
So, for some unknown reason, my driver's side headlight is broken on the inside. I don't know what caused it, I don't remember hitting any potholes or anything that could cause it to break up so bad in the assembly. Anyway, I have been looking on ebay for a replacement light, but very few state whether they are Halogen or HID. My car has factory HID's. What do I need to look for on some of these auctions to make sure I get the right headlight assbly. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Marv, your best bet will be to go to a auto parts salvage yard in your area and have them do a search for where a headlight assembly matching your needs is. They have a database that they can look to see where a Jag with your part is. They should also be able to give you a price quote there too. Then all you have to do is check the part out before you pick it up (have the part delivered to the yard so if it gets broken in shipment, you haven't paid for another broken headlight assembly. You can also try http://www.waltandverns.com. They are an auto recycler in Washington State. I have personally used them and they will bend over backwards to help you out. Maybe not the cheapest, but they stand behind their stuff. If you caution them that the internals are delicate and prone to breaking, they will make sure that the internals are supported during shipment.

Marv, the reason why they are saying that they don't know is because they know the part is busted and don't want to admit it. I would pass on those. The ones that know what they are talking about and are honest, will tell you outright that the internals are ok. If they can't look at the headlight and tell you if it is broken or not shouldn't be selling car parts.

Headlight assembly
Good evening..
I just had the same occur with my X-Type passenger side HID headlight.. trying to change the peanut bulb in the highbeam globe I busted the headlight levelling assembly inside. I managed to get it apart and glue the levelling arm back together until I can find a good used replacement.. in Canada they're $1400 new.. All that for a 7 cent bulb. Good luck!

Thermo,
That's exactly what I was thinking, so I will pass on that. Also, you would think they would post better pictures of at least the internals so you could make an informed decision.
Wleveille,
I don't know what caused mine to break like that. I was driving home the other night from work and all of sudden my driver's side light started flashing all kinds of colors and eventually flickered out. When I took the light assembly out, all the little plastic pieces were completely shattered. I think I can use an epoxy and fix it, but I need to figure out how to remove the lens over the light to get to the broken pieces. I was told I could use a heat gun to soften the seal and remove the lens. If I can do that, I believe I can fix it not have to spend the money to buy another one. If I mess up, I'll be buying another light anyway.

Xtype internals are pure Sh*t, I had 20 sets of halogen and Hids, Ive pulled them apart and epoxied, plastic welded etc. they just break around the repair. I got tired of messing with them and had to refund some money too since they didnt make it in shipping...Its all crappy plastic. Just like putting man in outer space...."PARTS MADE BY THE LOWEST BIDDER"
XJs and XK's dont break, and I can easily fix Stype which I have been retrofitting HID assemblies into cars the previously had halogen to replace broken ones.
To seperate put the assembly in the oven on 175*F for 10 minutes then pull apart, you dont have to reheat to reseal
