Headlights stuck facing up
Fellas
I have a 02 x-type and the lights do not auto level anymore. It seem that my xenon's are stuck in the "high position". Now everytime I drive my car at night I get flashed by people thinking I have my high beams on. I called Jag and they said it will cost $120 to check it out and if they have to replace the headlights that it will run about $900-1000. Does anyone know if I can manually adjust the lights so they don't blind everyone anymore.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Well Mago, you're opposite from the majority of owners when the auto-levelling goes kaput. Normall, they die in the low position. There are several forum members that have 'rigged' an adjustment system onto their headlamp assemblys from the rear. Try a search on the xtype and stype sections and see what you can find, or maybe someone will jump in, make it easy on you, and give you a link. You're not the first one to face this problem, unfortunately. It is very expensive to fix.
Try a reboot of the car's systems by pulling the negative cable for a few minutes, then reconnect. See if that does anything, it can't hurt, as I said, most people end up with theirs in the low position, something must have happened with the motor assemblies. You may be special.

Thanks for the reply h20boy! I will look through the forum and see if I can find a fix. I was reading that someone else had their right light facing higher than the left and one member said their was a screw that you could manually adjust. However I was unable to find such a screw. I will try and disconnect the negative cable like you said.

The heigth adjustment screws are located on the back side of each light. They are white nylon screws with a philips screwdrive slot. The access holes to the screws are in the support bar where the bonnet latches are located. Facing the engine the adjusters for the right lights are to the right of each light and on the left side they areto the left side of each light.
When I bought my X last year my right xenon was pointed at about the second story windows of the houses and I was able to lower it to an acceptable level. I preformed the adjustment after dark with the lights shining on the garage door. However if the trouble is with the leveling system I'm not sure if this adjustment will work. I guess you'll just have to try it to see. My auto leveling system is working properly.

I believe the auto leveling headlights came with the HID light system, but not with the standard lighting system. Hence why some people have the auto leveling and some don't. I beleive this is true atleast for the 2002-2003 vehicles. Other years it is hard to say.
