Default Headlights turn themselves on

Hi everyone. Strange problem here.
My suspicions have been confirmed last night that my x type 2.0D had turned the headlights on by itself.
I noticed it a couple of times before where I turned the light switch off and the headlights remained either on or turned themselves on later.
I replaced the light switch recently which I hoped would cure it, but no, unless the new switch is faulty.
Last night, I looked through the window and I saw the headlights were on again. I just used the key fob to unlock, then relock the doors, which turned the headlights out.
Now I know what has been draining my battery and setting the alarm off. Obviously, I dare not trust when the headlights may come on by themselves again.
Any ideas what may cause this problem ?

Your fob might be broken. I kept on having a problem where the locks would lock and unlock as I was driving , and I thought initially the actuators were broken, but it was the key fob that was malfunctioning.

The fob can activate high beam but not dipped.

I had another problem with the headlights, don't know if it is connected but several times when driving, the headlights seem to go up and down occasionally. I checked the adjusters etc, installed new headlights but problems still there. Can't reproduce the problem when it's stood. No auto-lights.

What model & year do you have?

If you have a model with a can bus system, try this:
- disconnect the can bus connector at the central junction box. This will prevent any commands coming from the instrument cluster turning on the lisghts.
- if the lights don’t come on,( on their own) then something is amiss with the light switch or instrument cluster.
- if the lights still come on (on their own) thrn something is amiss in the central junction box.

It's an X type 2.0 Diesel, base model, 2005, manual, estate.
It does indeed have a comprehensive CAN system.
I'll check out what you suggest asap.
Many thanks.

Had a look on JTIS but can't find anything that could be called a central junction box. Could you help me further ?

If you're in Notts., get the car over to David Marks Garages or up to The Jag Specialist in Doncs.
