Default headlights warning

I have left my headlights on several times now with my '06.

My previous car had auto headlights, so there was never anything to turn on or off. If by chance I actually turned on the lights in the previous car there was a very loud bell to remind me to turn them off when I removed the keys.

In my jag, however, I have to actually turn the lights on (omg!) and I never can remember to turn them off. Far worse is the puny little chime that is so faint I have to strain to hear it at all. So now Im terribly afraid of draining my battery.

Is there a way to increase the volume of the warning chime so it actually does its job of warning me?

Hmm. I have both auto lights and a fairly loud chime if I have the lights manually on and I remove the key.

Is there a way to make the lights turn on/off automatically?

Yup for sure, there are some aftermarket auto lights sensors .
GM also calls them twilight sentinel in their fleet

Agree with Master Deep. There is an auto setting and the chime seems loud enough to me when they are left on. Do you not take a last gaze to admire your car whenever you get out of it?

I think it would be easier to train yourself than to modify your warning chimes. And cheaper too. Just sayin'......

I am what my parents used to affectionately call "a beautiful mess". If I can leave the milk out to spoil I will, if I can leave the lights on to drain the battery I will, if I can lose my rent check between the office and the mailbox I will, reset the alarm clock to 6 pm instead of am... My life is far safer with precautions in place!

I don't really need to buy an aftermarket product and spend senselessly, but honestly the chime is barely audible. Increasing that to something beyond what I can only hear if it is dead silent and I strain to find would be nice.

LOL....ah well at least you have some self awareness, and that is good.

Now I'm gonna go check the volume of my chime when I get out of work. Maybe I have supersonic hearing.

Maybe if you are good enough at DIY wiring you could run a hot lead from the light switch to a strobe light or something, crossed through the ignition switch, that would activate when the ignition is off and the lights are on.

Got any electrical engineering buddies?

I didn't realize the auto headlights weren't standard equipment. My 05 Sport has auto headlights AND the chime is plenty loud when set for manual.

buy a canadian headlight switch, it will convert it to healights on with ignition. Very simple to just plug in a different switch.

you cant put the US auto headlamp switch unless you have the sensor in the rearview mirror, that gets expensive
