Default Headliner build

Hello forum,

I finally got my headliner fixed. I thought to post what I used as sound dampener/insulation and how it turned out. Pictures attached.

I used
KnuKonceptz Kno Knoise Kolossus Sound Deadener 100Mil Thick KnuKonceptz Kno Knoise Kolossus Sound Deadener 100Mil Thick
for sound dampening and
3M Thinsulate Acoustic/Thermal Insulation SM600L 3M Thinsulate Acoustic/Thermal Insulation SM600L
for sound suppression and insulation.

The results are as good as you'd expect, very good. The difference in cabin noise is noticeable especially next any noisy vehicle, fwy. tunnel, etc. I have a decent stereo system and it sounds a bit better, too.

I asked the shop put Thinsulate in the pillars as well.

This shop did all the work and provided the headliner material - which turned out to look absolutely spot on - same day, 6 hours service, $400 out the door.

The cabin floor is next. Very happy!

I live in the Los Angeles, Sherman Oaks area.

UPDATE: Now that the weather is getting up to and over 100 degrees, I wanted to feel how effective the Thinsulate was at insulating the cabin from the heat. And effective it is.

Previously with just the insulation in the doors and rear only I had to keep the AC on high to stay cool. (And btw, before I put the insulation in the doors and rear the summer heat here in the LA Valley was unbearable.) Today I had to turn down the AC to stay comfortable. I could feel a significant drop in the overall cabin temperature vs the same time last year.

Nice result - and at a great price.
The entire back half of the headliner collapsed the other day. I put some of those stupid pins in to keep it from getting worse.
I'm afraid I'll pay more than $400 in NY, but it has to get fixed. Hopefully under $1k.
Car only has 26,000 miles - and is otherwise in ship shape.

did mine a few months back. compared to mercedes the jag was a breeze. Used the 3m headliner spray can, was about $25 and one can did the whole headliner. if tackling yourself, definitely start at the A pillar by the windshield and undo the wiring there first. you can leave the trim on the b pillar where the seat belts mount to the chassis to help hold it. only other trick is removing the 2 bolts that hold the trim on the c pillar behind the upper seat cushion.
