RE: Heater issue 2002 X Type
Check the basics first. Is the coolant full? Does your external temp reading on the climate control panel show an accurate temp? How many miles on the car? Do you know if the thermostat has ever been replaced? Jaguar temp gauges aren't really accurate, they will show a reading in the middle of the gauge for a large range of actual temps therefore your stat could be sticking open and causing the cold heat but the gauge will read normally.

Trust me, we techs bitch much more about the high price of fluids here than any customers ever could. It makes it hard to sell a trans service when the fluid alone is $500 or more, you have to wait for the car to come in with a leak before anyone wants to spend that kind of money. I will say one thing though. Jaguar has lowered the prices on a lot of their hard parts in the last few years and some things are actually cheaper at the dealer than you can find aftermarket.

Hahaa, you're right, I'm sorry. I just can't wait for the superbowl! Besides, I didn't mean it like that, and not to the fine people who work there, but $55 for a gallon of antifreeze?

$55 is crazy, yes.

Emiliano, first off, welcome to the forums. I think you will find a lot of useful information here. So, sit back, enjoy a nice cup of coffee and read up. Lots of good information here. Also, if you haven't already, please leave a note in the "New Member" section. There you will learn who the movers and shakers are around here.
As for your issue. First off, check the fluid level in the overflow bottle. Odds are, you will find that it is low. If this is the case, then you have a leak somewhere. Normally the leak comes from the small line that enters at the side of the overflow bottle against the firewall. This is known for cracking (look for a dark white line in the nipple and possibly the hose being loose). Granted, cracks can form anywhere on the bottle. If the bottle is damaged, you will need a new overflow bottle. A new one can be picked up for around $100 and installing it is really easy. From there, you refill the bottle and that is about all that will be needed.
If the bottle is fine and you have adequate level in the overflow bottle, then odds are your water pump is failing. Installing a new water pump is easy. If you have any mechanical ability, you can do the water pump in this car. If you need help, let me know.
If you are not able to find your leak, let us know and we will help you out.

Loss of heat
Hi everyone. Fairly new jaguar owner (18 months). Always wanted one.
I had heater problems and found coolant was low. Rectified this this with top up and antifreeze. This correctyed it for a few days but now haas returned to cold air. I will check all the avenues previously described. However, until corrected, if I continue to drive even with correct coolant levels, can this cause damage to the engine. My thoughts are no.
Am I the only only UK correspondent?
