Help!! Bank 1 misfire and several other cels
Hello I am looking at buying a 2002 Jaguar X-Type with 70,000 miles. It's a 3.0L automatic FWD.
CEL:
P0300
P0301
PO303
P0305
P1313
P1316
P1384
P1396
The car idles smooth, and is smooth on the highway but when accelerating check engine light comes on. The codes above were stored in the ECU.
What I'm stumped on is that all the misfires (cyl 1 3 and 5) are on one bank. THANKS!!!

Dmitry: When oil leaks into the common spark plug well, it can cause all 3 spark plugs on the same bank to misfire.
If you buy this car, expect to remove the intake manifold and find oil around spark plugs 1, 3 & 5, the firewall bank. The repair is not difficult or costly if you do it yourself: remove the valve cover and replace the gasket around the spark plug well - it fits the rectangular groove in the valve cover (picture attached). Clean the spark plugs, or better yet, replace them - they're likely fouled by misfires. Also clean and inspect the coil boots for arcing damage. I'd do both banks, and replace the intake manifold gaskets & IMT O-rings while the intake is off.
Does the check engine light blink or stay on all the time. Since you don't know how long it's been driven with a misfiring engine, the health of the catalytic converters is a concern. P1313 & P1316 point to problems with the Bank 1 converter. A blinking CEL is an added warning that a catalytic converter is either already damaged or being damaged, probably by unburned fuel in cylinder 1, 3 & 5 exhaust. Replacing spark plugs and valve cover gaskets is relatively easy & cheap if you do it yourself. Replacing a damaged catalytic converter is more challenging & expensive.
I'll let others comment on P1384 & P1396 - variable valve timing issues.
Having said that, 70K miles is very low on a 2002. If the body is in decent shape, the price is right, and you have the passion to work on your own car, this could be a very good deal. But if a dealership does all your car repairs, there's probably a better X-Type out there waiting for you.
