Default Help buying a Jag

Hey im looking to buy an 02 or 03 jag x-type, I am a car enthusiast previously owning an evo although i dont know much about Jaguars. Are there common issues or things I should look for when buying one, most are going to have between 80 and 100k and i am not sure if there is anything that usually gets done to these around this mileage. any info will help or if any of you have one for sale let me know around the vt nh area.

Why are you limiting to 02-03 is it price, if so maybe a Jag isn't for you at this time. Of course if you can do most work yourself you're better off. I paid 6k for my X type with about a 100k on the odo and it has been trouble free in its 1st year but maint has been around 500 for me doing everything. Probably another 700 if I had a shop do it and as I said it has been trouble free! Still have a little more to do this spring like the coolant, rear dif and tranny. Do a search of the x type forum, check out the faq. Post 04s are generally viewed as having less bugs. Focus on the tranny (if an auto), transfer case, rear suspension, carrier bearing for common issues. Good luck and happy test driving. Drive as many as you can.

Ya im trying to keep the price down I only am interested in the Jaguar after i did a search of all cars on cars.com and found a nice one for 6k i didnt realize i could get one for that cheap so im just trying to find some general info on them. I need it to be reliable and awd is ideal since im in vt I have already looked at one but the engine light was on for a misfire code which could be the plugs which wouldnt be a big deal although i am hesistant and am going to look at another 03 with 100k on it

Look in the FAQ section, and the TSB section. There are numerous TSB for pre 04, DO NOT get into an X with a pre existing issue of any sort. My first CEL would have cost me 2500.00 if there wasn't a 30 day warranty.

there is a really nice looking 05 manual tranny 3.0 on flebay right now (in Mass). I'd guess it might go for 7-9k. The key with flebay is to ask lots of questions and if anything seems ary don't bid, if the questions are answered to your satisfaction then bid. Don't put anything down but be prepared to go there the next day or two with full payment in hand. If anything wasn't answered correctly or there is any issues that weren't disclosed you do not have to buy it. You can even arrange to have an indie garage look at it near the place before you buy if the seller agrees and you don't trust your abilities to evaluate it.
