HELP...Dumb mistake with back brakes
Ok, so I need some help!
I just changed one of the back brakes on my mother in-laws X-type. I got it done after checking out this thread. Now I had taken off the other back brake when I noticed some fluid had come out of the top of the fill so I hit the brake to put some back in the side I did. Well the piston came out of the other side and brake fluid is everywhere. What do I do to put it back together, can I just screw in the piston and where does the boot go? I know this was dumb and I don’t usually make these sort of mistakes but I did.
Thanks
I have to fix it before they get home!

RE: HELP...Dumb mistake with back brakes
It was nice speaking with you and I feel your pain!
I am not 100% sure but speaking from experience I have over extended a caliper in my day and the end result I needed to replace the caliper. The JTIS manual does not say anything about your situation, just on how to replace the pads and the proper procedure. It states clearly that the driver side the piston screws clockwise and the passenger side counter clockwise, so I can understand how you may have accidentally unscrewed the piston. Hopefully a jag tech will come along, but I feel the caliper may need replacement.

I'm not sure if linking to rival forums is allowed, but some useful info is here http://www.jaguarforum.co.uk/viewtop...caliper+piston
I'm sure a mod will delete if this is not allowed.
