Help with my 03 X type 2.5L
Hi all,
I need a little guidance, so I hope someone can help me. 4 days ago my husband changed the spark plugs in x-type. He's done this countless times before on several of our vehicles, so he is very proficient.
However, 2 days ago, while driving, it started to jerk very minutely. Yesterday morning, it jerked, and I heard a "pshhhh" sound, it immediately lost power, and the powertrain malfunction light came on. I made it home, let my husband check it out, and he turned the car off, took out this L shaped tube -
started it again, and the it worked like nothing happened. The malfunction light went off, it had power, and all SEEMED right in the world.
Yesterday evening, on my way to work, the same thing happened, but I pulled over on the road, turned the car off, pulled out the hose, started the car, put on the cruise, and made it to work.
When I came home this morning, I didn't get a mile from my job, same thing happened, except this time the powertrain AND engine malfunction lights came on. I did the little thing, put it in cruise and made it home.
My hubby said he's going to put it on a code reader today, but thinks it's a vacuum leak somewhere. Does anyone have ANY idea? PLEASE HELP!!

Monica, based on how the o-rings are on the X-type, it may be possible that he pinched an o-ring on the intake and he did not see it when it put it all back together. He can get a set of o-rings for the intake at the local auto parts store (Felpro makes a set, tell him to ask for the "intake gasket set for the same year Lincoln LS 3.0L motor". IF you do some looking around, I have the part number in a few posts. The gasket set is like $22. Cheap thing. IF you go to Jaguar, they want like $12 a gasket (requires 6). After that, I would also recommend replacing the IMT o-rings (can only be gotten through the dealership, but they are like $3 each). That should fix your problem if you are having a vacuum leak issue.

Hi Monica, Had a similar problem myself, It was a crack in breather pipe between air cleaner box and inlet manifold. Black rubber pipe about 3/4 inch diameter right next to the little pipe you pulled off. Just to the left of the hand in your photo. Pipe splits usually on the underside so you cant see unless you look underneath. Replacements are not expensive and have been modified to prevent this happening. Hope this was a help, best of luck.

Update - Problem fixed
Well, after my hubby put it on a code reader, an error came up for the 'A' throttle positioning sensor. I had to go buy a new throttle body, because just buying the sensors, cost almost as much.
My mechanic, put on the throttle body, and now 'baby girl' has her groove back.
Thanks guys, for all your help. I know I'll need you again.
