Yeah same here. He cut and gave me a emergency key. But all that will do is unlock the doors for me if I lock the keys inside or something. Won't start the car.
But
ood to have until I can get a true spare. Have to find a good ebey dealer and buy a blank and my locksmith said he would cut and program for $75 if I bring him a blank.
Other wise from him it would be close to $300

said that there must be a malfunction somewhere. i told him i didnt know. since ive owned the car the only way i know how to open the "boot" is off the key fob.
yeah theres that little button there but once you close the trunk its locked up tight heh
thought about trying to fish through the back seat and snag the release on the seat somehow.
but after a long day of work my local locksmith was just the easiest solution

The problem with going through the back seat is that the release knob goes towards the BACK of the car, and it is at a difficult angle with regards to where you can get a tool in.
Best bet is removing the lower seat, then using a long tool to reach and pull the escape handle down. Great in the States, but the vars don't have that handle in most other countries.

I do not have any problems when / if I lock my keys in the trunk (boot).
A simple modification costing little to obtain a

I have since done a small modification costing "shirt buttons" to make things even easier.
Finally I have a simple modified flat key blank that is used as a screwdriver similar to this

No 1 rule. Immediately on owning an X Type is
ENSURE YOU HAVE TWO PROPER, FULLY FUNCTIONING KEYS.
That will as a minimum open the door and will start the engine
I would also ensure you have the key cutting code for you key ( known as a TIBBE key).
It will be in the form of T423141.
Hint. Look it up on the web. It is easy to read your key code.
UK independant companies will supply cut keys from just seeing a photo.
A basic Ford style key without buttons will fit an X Type.

All X Type owners. Do this quick fix.
You need to take off the yellow quick release handle the all US cars have. I know they are to save your kids if they get locked in, but if that happens blame Darwin! (kidding)
Remove the plastic cover. It's a few screws. Thread a plastic tie from the point the handle was at, through one of the holes behind your tag. When you remove the cover it's easy to figure out. Make sure it can't be seen. So now when you lock anything in your trunk you just remove or bend up your tag and pull the tie. And your boot/trunk will open. Do it now, because there are those who have, and those who will lock their keys in the trunk, or have the electronic button fail.
