Default High Pitched Rattling Noise

I’ve got a manual 2004 X-Type 2.5 (162K miles) which I used as my daily driver until about 2013. For a while now after driving for about 10 minutes at about 50 mph, I start hearing what sounds like a high pitched rattling noise coming from underneath the vehicle. It can be heard much louder when passing other vehicles. I have attached a sound recording made from inside the cabin while driving.

I’ve not had any serious issues with the car besides having to replace the transfer case in 2014. The engine runs very well while stationary with no noise from the belts and pulleys or anywhere else. The noise can also be heard when the car is coasting down the road on neutral. I’ve taken it to an independent Jaguar repair shop and they can’t seem to figure what the issue is. Hoping someone on the forum might have come across this problem.

sk1, normally when someone has a sound like what you are describing, it is the heat shield on the back side of the engine that goes over the exhaust header. This is known for coming loose and rattling around.

You wouldn't have spent some time in the navy by chance. Seeing your screen name brings back memories from my time in.

Thanks Thermo for your quick response. I'm pretty sure you're right on this. I will look into the heat shield issue this weekend.

PS: Different SK1 unfortunately.

I looked into the heat shield issue. I even lifted the car up and knocked around the various pieces of heat shield for a while but found that everything was very sturdy and fastened with plastic rivets and ties. Still can't pinpoint issue. Any other suggestions? Maybe sound clip of the noise could provide clues. I greatly appreciate any input.

I checked 'dogbone' and it looks new. Then I recalled that this had been replaced a few years ago when I took it to get a vibrating driveshaft replaced. Still can't figure out what constant constant rattling noise is.
