I know what smell you are speaking of. I don't think I'd worry about it. As long as your talking about deeper snow? All cars have small smells and when those smells can't escape from the car because of the snow they are a little more apparent. They can't escape everywhere from underneath the car because the snow traps it. Does it do it all the time or only when you get stuck kind of?

I'm telling you every car puts off a smell...the one's i generally look for are antifreeze, gas, gas burning in the exhaust and oil. Other than those smells you might smell some clutch if you've got a manual but every car has a certain fragrance...

It wouldn't hurt to check the little plastic air scoop under the engine to make sure it either hasn't been knocked off, or, is damaged and up against something that gets real hot.

Every car I've owned does that. I know my Explorer does it.

Every vehicle does this. If you've ever noticed if you don't have the a/c on with the defrost on in the jag, the fog isn't removed from the window. The a/c has to be on to send some good clean non humid air at the window! If you turn on the defrost and floor on you can shut the a/c off so it doesn't use any extra fuel.
