How can I program NAV while in motion?
I can't find the thread about how to update firmware or whatever it takes to allow me to operate my NAV unit (program new addresses) while in motion. I have the new Navteq 2011-2012 disc, but it didn't do the update like I thought it would. Is this possible?

4bizonly, Jaguar specifically programmed the Nav to not allow you to program new addresses while moving. I understand the desire to do that, but short of modifying the wiring going to the Nav system (ie, cutting the VSS signal wire as I recall), you are going to have a hard time with that. The idea was that the driver would be more interested in programming the Nav than paying attention to the road. As sad as that is to say, that is the thought process. But, if you are like me, normally you will have a passenger in the car as you are needing the Nav and they could do it for you (which would make it nice). I can do a little bit of looking, but I think you are going to find that it is hard to do with our vehicles. I know a lot of the aftermarket ones, all it takes is clipping the wire that is supposed to go to your e-brake. But, the Jag is set up a little differently.

I actually seem to recall reading somewhere that the newer update would allow using the NAV normally regardless of whether the vehicle is moving or not, and I am currently under the impression that doing the 2011-2012 update has allowed me to do just that. I'll attempt to remember to try it when I leave work today.
EDIT
Tested & works. EU disc here as well, Western Europe.

I got a 2010 disc for mine, and it updated the firmware in the nav from the previous 2005 edition. I got a new screensaver, changed colour scheme on the maps, and the ability to enter a destination on the move.
Note that it was a Western Europe map disc, not North America.
Maybe the North American discs don't allow you to do it.
I would think, that if you got a 2010 EU disc, updated the firmware, then reloaded your North American disc, then you would have the feature enabled.
Makes sense...

That may be it. I know some lawyer would have a field day with something like that knowing that the manufacturer allowed that in their cars. I just don't see it happening with the US version. Sorry, but that is the truth of where we live and all the sue happy people that are out there wanting an easy buck. If they only knew how hard other people have it in the world. Life is pretty good here, even if you are not making tons of money.

Bollacks. My Merc allows full control of the Nav on the move and I'm 1000000x less likely to be involved in an accident because I'm focused on the road rather than worried about being lost (if that's the case) where to pull over so I can program the bloody Nav in my Jag doing 70MPH on I-495. There are no US laws against it, as my Merc allows it, my brothers A4 and MDX allow it. It's just a dumb move by Jaguar.
How is it any different than you programming Google Maps on your phone? At least with the car Nav I have nice big buttons to press.
I so wish I downloaded the 2011 Euro DVD a fellow member posted a while back to flash mine with. I bought the US 2010 Map DVD to get this function and was ticked it didn't work.

Mine is the 2001 X-Type stock navigation system, as far as I know it is made by Denso? The DVD I used was one I encountered in the dark corners of the internet.

Let's clear this up.
The nav in the X-Type, Facelift S-Type and X350 XJ is by Denso.
That means all X-Types, the S-Types from 2003 and XJ's from 2003-2009.
They all run the same system.
The nav in the XK's prior to the new alloy body is by Alpine.
As you know steveinfrance, there are no updates available for those models.

I have the 2010 nav update disc, which updated my Sat Nav from the green Jaguar screensaver, to a black and white screen and also allowing sat nav input on the move. Still have to press that annoying agree button every time I move off though, but much better than it used to be, seems to be more responsive with button presses.

Ok, I downloaded the 2011 Euro Nav DVD yesterday (thx to a fellow forum member) and when I poped it in the DVD drive, it didn't prompt me for an update. So, I went in the "1971" system menu and forced it to update from 9.0.2 to 9.0.3.
Bad news. When the Euro DVD is in, I can enter directions on the move. However, when I inserted the 2010 US DVD, the buttons got disabled, URGH. So, that leads me to believe that the software update has nothing to do with it, the configuration that enables/disabled the on-the-move input is actually controlled by the DVD itself because even the input options got changed based on the DVD inserted (Euro version had more buttons [e.g. Postcode]).

However, I consider it probably not worth the risk. You could seriously mess up your nav unit, I fear.

For what its worth, Dropped my XF SC for the E-Diff motor and ended up with a 2011 LR2. I own one as well. To my surpirse the nav on teh loaner allowed input while in motion but my XF and LR2 do not. (I belive that they are teh same units). I will try and see if teh DVD is of a newer version in teh loaner the next time im at the dealer.

Can anyone from Europe send a copy of the KWI file code for the DVD so I can look and see what is different from the US? I have looked through the wiring diagram and cant find what wire gives the GPS the signal saying the car is in park or not. I dont have much time to do more research but when I get back home where I have my desktop I will do some more research hopefully we can crack this issue.
Jag should at least think about putting a sensor that works with the airbag sensor for the passanger seat. If the sensor is activated by having a passenger the GPS should work. But I am sure some lawyer would put a halt to that because people would be driving around with a dumbbell in their passenger seat or something.
