03 2.5 original owner. Drive it hard on lousy roads so the suspension always needs attention. Live in snow territory so I have the Rust Problem in the A pillar. But at 140,000 miles, it is still a strong running car and love it almost as much as my XK.

Smile Great Post, most interesting, thanks!

My babe is a late 2002 (UK 52 reg), I bought her last October 2012 and although she needs a little tlc (tender loving care!) she will be right as rain when I have a full wallet, then it will be empty ... doh!
She's Baby Blue and she has 87,00 miles on the clock, I've only done about 5,000 but I have nothing but praise for the X Type design and superb road holding the AWD (all wheel drive) is superb! This is my third X Type and I will probably have another before I shell out for an XJR350, but I hope to keep the X as I have too much love to give and I have a great fascination for the X Type... Grace Pace and lots of space with a lump in my throat and a SMILE ON MY FACE!
Regards, Stu

Thumbs up My 2003 X-type has 126,900

I've got 126,900 miles on my 2003 X-Type. I plan on driving it until it either falls apart of becomes a pain in the wallet.
I have just recently replaced the top water rail, thermostat, and O2 sensors, and all the belts. They weren't as hard to replace as the spark plugs, but all of this I was able to do on my own by help through other members on this site.
What a great car!

118k on my 2005 (UK05) 2.0d.

Apart from tyres, only needed small repairs so far, apart form the Clutch Slave cylinder, but that was covered by warranty.

Love my X, but possibly looking for a 3.0 with NAV and bluetooth, but not looking too hard

Just bought a '07 in very nice condition with a whopping 137,000 on the dial. Would have never taken the plunge had it not looked to be in such great shape.
I know bad things can happen to a high-miler...they can also happen to low-milers! Better to be lucky than good!

2001 X type SE 2.5 V6 petrol Auto (UK). Platinum with Dove Gray Leather.
Done 38,000 miles from new.
History shows Instrument/speedo replaced at 13,000 under warranty.
1x Driveshaft sometime after.
Currently sorting Gearbox Fault with Engine Management light.
Loving the car. I have a soft spot for bigger engined autos. (UK read 2.5L as big) although Jag is not as smooth or as quiet as my old Omega.

Just clocked 160,000 miles over here after a nice thousand-mile road trip to Brownsville, Texas. The X handles beach sand quite nicely!

240,000 miles on my 2002 2.5v6.bought it with 130,000.Replaced front offside spring last year and apart from oil change, spark plugs, filters, tyres and brakes, thats about it.This week have changed the serpentine belt, but it was only slightly cracked. This has been the most reliable car I have owned.

I just signed up. We bought a 2004 x-type this week, it has the 2.5 and a 5 speed manual trans. It currently has 131,000 miles, hope to go considerably further, as my wife drives a lot in her profession (musician).

Bought mine just over 4 years ago with 70,000 then. Just serviced yesterday with 160,000.

Previous faults
ABS fault, two springs, glovebox handle broke, alternator,

Current faults
One broken headlight adjuster
One bulb socket burnt out

Most reliable car Ive had to date and most cared for.

Default Update on 2007 X-Type Sportwagon

98K miles and so far (after factoring in a replacement transfer case that is soon to be), I have sunk over $16K in scheduled maintenance and misc repairs since I picked this up new. I still have a bad a/c compressor that needs attention, blown premium Alpine speakers and CD changer that is ka-put. Premium system indeed. Add another two grand to fix these things. Sad to say that despite strict adherence to scheduled maintenance and twice the number of recommended full synth oil changes, I have still racked up these kinds of repair numbers for mechanical failures and high maintenance requirements. My car must have been going down the line while rumors of Jaguar being sold off to Tata were fresh on the line workers' minds. Car looks great from the outside but its what you can't see that's an engineering abomination.

$16k?! Have you been using the dealer for everything?

I would say 80 pct of my service visits have been to the Jag dealer; the others to an independent shop. My thinking was "who would know better about these cars than Jaguar?" I have been very satisfied with the work, but the price has been tough to swallow.

That's pretty much been my experience. I've only had warranty work there (but that warranty has since expired). Since then, I have taken it up there several times just for a "diagnostic", and then taken the car to my regular mechanic, where the work is done for a lot less. I'm always flabbergasted by the price estimates they put on that sheet!
