2003, 2.5, Sport, Auto
55,700 miles in total, drove about 16000 miles since bought it two years ago.
replaced the following: Downstream O2 sensor, MAF sensor, oil pan gasket & recently an instrument cluster that goes disco mode after driving for half an hour.
I acknowledge that this car is more than 10 years old already and consider the following fixes minor, well, besides the instrument cluster I suppose, but with winters reaching -4F I'm not surprised at all.

2002 3.0 X-Type Sport (Silver), 5 Speed, w NAV. Just drove across country. From Toronto to B.C. And it turned 341,000. Still quite smooth took it to 170 Km/H
a few times on the drive. Noisy tires and possibly a bearing. Going to flush fluids this weekend hopefully and oil change. Needs full brake work. Have been quite happy with it during my ownership. We slept together a few times
Hard to get a hotel at odd times of the night in smaller towns. LoL! Looking forward to winter although this will be the coldest
for this Jag during it's lifetime. Its from East Coast. But spending its first winter in Alberta!![Icon Snowman](https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_snowman.gif)
Have to remind myself NOT to drive it like a Japanese car. It's keeps purring like it wants to go faster LoL! I'm learning to cruise in it.

I love this car. I bought my wife an 02 wit 29k miles about two years ago. Still runs like top! I got into the gold business, and needed a nice ride, she wouldn't let me drive hers, and my Ranger didn't fit the profile. So I found a 2008 x-type with 36 k miles! Took a while to find it, but it was in San Diego! Drove about 9 hours to get it, and it is flawless!

What did you use for transfer case oil? How about the trans? Is it a manual trans, mine is?

I purchased a 2002 with 172k two weeks ago. It has 173k now. This was a private sale with all service receipts for the last 10 years. The car runs like a new car. PO changed the oil with Mobil One every 5k miles and has every receipt if you can believe that. Many major items were done IE: Cooling system, A/C system incl. compressor, belts and tensioners, fuel pump, etc. Amazingly nice care for the money. The only thing I needed to fix was to replace the broken clip for the driver's sun visor.

For the transmission Redline MT80 (for transmissions) and transfer case I have used Redline 75w-90 and Royal Purple most recently. Both oils seem to work very well. The very 1st time I changed the transfer case oil was after I bought the car used with ~ 67k on it and NOOO Oil came out. I did a fill and flush on the transfer case at that time and did regular oil changes on both. Oil has since came out looking very clean. For engine oil I have used Amsoil in the past but have used Castrol Edge (gold bottle) since it is more regularly available.

Hi Gregg, yes my Sport is a 5spd manual....I would not have it any other way

I will check on the net to see if I can get a comparison to the Jag specification in the owner's manual
Thanks ..... Gregg

Isn't there some kind of viscous coupler in the transfer case? Seems there would have to be considering that the system is full time 4 WD. Normally they require an ATF type of fluid, not gear oil.

I bought my 2005 Xtype SED Estate in 2009, with 89,000 on the clock. Its now done 257,000 miles. It was used as a taxi for 3 years and now we tour all over europe and spend most of our time in Spain. It has had a lot spent on it, suffering all the common faults on this model, 2 clutches (DMF main faults), Turbo replaced by Jag dealer, £1300, (robbers), later I discovered the Actuator fault from this forum. Wobbly wheels, new drive shafts. New cylinder head due to cracked and broken camshaft lobes. New injectors, pump and fuel rail, due to swarf. But our garage in Spain (Conesa) solved several small problems with bad starting ( Fuel pressure valve) (EGR cleaned out) and a couple more, that were supposed to have been done at our UK garage. It now averages 50 mpg, on long runs and 42 locally, and accelerates better than when I bought it.

2003 X-Type 2.5 Auto with 427,000 miles. Only routine maintenance and mostly stop and go Manhattan miles. That's the secret to a healthy X-Type.
Heh....actually we just bought this car and it has 152,324 miles. It's running and driving very nicely, but needs the normal stuff, as the original owner just went by the book.
