How much does it cost to install sleeves into nikasil block?
I would like to know if it makes sense to buy dead XK with bad nikasil cylinders. Is it possible to install 4.2 engine instead of 4.0? Or should I find 01 steel engine? What is the best way to deal with dead nikasil engine? thanks.
I am pretty sure I can find 01 engine from XJ8 pretty cheap. will it fit xk?

car5car, to sleeve an engine, you are looking at a complete rebuild. So, you can plan on paying about $5000 for the engine work and then another $2000 for removal and installation. So, you are looking at about $7000 to sleeve the engine.
As for installing the 4.2L engine in place of the 4.0L engine, if I remember right, you can swap between the two as the sensors are in the same locations and all the mounting points are the same. Granted, at this point, finding a low mileage engine is going to be a relative term here. The same concept should go with the 01 steel engine in the way of mounts and sensors. Wihth both of these, you may need to do a little swapping of parts (ie, say intake tubing) to make it fit your specific application.
The engines in the XJ and XK are the same. So, if you can find a good engine in an XJ, then you should be golden.
